Yeah, Jacob isn't the most original name but we liked it. My wife and I have decided that, if we could do it again, we would have stuck with our first choice - Jacoby.

Garret will probably have to spell his name his whole life ("one 't', dammit").

My first name is Mitchel (though I don't go by it). It being spelled with one 'l' has caused me no end of trouble, as does going by my middle name instead of my first name. So what did I do? Named my son Mitchel Crane (he goes by Crane). I'm evil.

My first name is Forrest (though I don't go by it) and have the same problem. Now I just pretty much say "Forrest with two r's" when people are writing it down. Garret's first name is Forrest too, so he has a double whammy.

Believe it or not, I used to have a lot of problems with my middle name - Ryan. I would get Brian, Rhine, Ron, Rien, etc. It's a lot more common now, so no problem any more.

I always swore I'd go with Very traditional names.

The problem was, when the time came, the ones I liked were all pretty popular and trendy. My wife has a little different name and wanted one easy to pronounce and my rule was it had to be one they could spell in Kindergarden.

We ended up picking something not even near the top 100, but I like it.

I think it would be cool to name a kid as a sound and not a word. For example, you can name your kid as a finger snap, or as that champagne cork sound when you flip your finger against the inside of your cheek. There's no prohibition against it, and it's just as easy to snap your fingers as it is to say "John".

It'd make your kid really unique in school, too. I can envision the teacher calling roll:

"Lucy?"

"Here."

"Gomer?"

"Here."

(Champagne cork pop against mouth)?

"Here."

"Eddie?"

"Here."

True story -- my wife and I had agreed on a name for a girl for our second, but then we found out it was a boy. Our first boy we agreed on the name no problem. Second time around was a very different story. We tried every conceivable means of agreeing on a name, but nothing worked.

Eventually, it came down to rock, paper, scissors. The winner gets the first name they want, the loser gets their name as the middle name.

I won.

I'm not really sure my wife has ever forgiven me. :D

But, Mr. Rain Man, what if he wasn't there, but there was another kid whose name was (bicycle tire blow out sound) and he was there. And the kid whose name was (bicycle tire blowout sound) thought that the teacher had called his name but she had actually called out for the kid whose name was (champagne cork popping sound)? Did you ever think about that?

I made some simple rules when naming our kid.

1. It had to be easy to spell, and hopefully pronounce.
2. It couldn't be one that would be prone to having 3-4 in their class with the same name
4. nothing weird.
5.Boy...Had to be able to close my eyes and visualize if being said over the PA at the Iowa State Wrestling tourn, and believe it.
6. Girl...Had to be able to close my eyes, and NOT envision a plugged nosed DJ Welcoming her to the stage.

I'd settled on Mertle Pearl for a Girl, thinking that would keep the boys away, and keep her off the stage, but someone reminded me that she'd probably change her name to cinnemon if I did that...so I didn't.

Now.....I'll rely on the tombstone engraved "your name here" I'll be putting out back for her 12th birthday for starters.

You would not believe some of the names of kids I've seen in the hospital.

1) Cash Money

2) Diamond Leggs.

3) Million ~ pronounced Mill-yawn.

4) Slam King
I met a girl up in MN when I was younger who's name was actually Bambi, her Mom's name was Fawn and her brothers name was Buck. In the next town over there was a girl named Cinnamon, mothers name was Pepper, can't remember if there were any other odd ones in that family.

Perhaps you've forgotten, but you've had the power to make me go away for a long time.

The fact that you've not exercised that power is not my concern.

As I've said before, you're like a pet. Shouldn't one have concern over one's pets?

Or, I just get bored easily.

I know one thing. I'm naming my next girl "Mer". That way she can marry an abusive woman-hating, pimp-stripclub owner. That way she can loop around on a football BB waiting for her knight in shining armour to rescue her...

Eva - the name fits her perfectly, it means 'life' and she is full of it!

Dare - My son is named after Virginia Dare, the first child of European descent born in North America. He was concieved at Nags Head, NC(Kitty Hawk) which is in Dare county. Wilbur and Orville were not even considered. :)

Egan - Means 'little fire' and it again fits him perfectly...

At this point a lot of the blame has to go to Donger who can't seem to restrain himself from replying to her every post. Its like damn clockwork, and ends up being a back seat fight between siblings, "you stop first", "no, you stop first", "I'll stop if you stop", "stop it", "no you stop it", "shutup", "you first", blah, blah blah.

Liam Andrew is 5 and Michael Ronan is 2.

Liam was born on September 17, 2000 - shortly after Sylvester Morris hung 3 TDs on San Diego. I watched the game while my wife was in labor.
