View Full Version : What is the proper term for a group of BB posters?

Rain Man

We have a flock of sheep, a herd of cows, a pride of lions, a pack of dogs, a pod of whales, a murder of crows, a pack of cigarettes, and many other specific terms. What is the term for a group of bulletin board posters?

Give me some options, and then I'll append a poll to this thread.

I'll begin by offering up "a baffle of posters".

I would reckon that it would be a "dipshittery of idles".

For the same reason that it's "a pride of lions" and not "a cabal of carnivores" or "a mange of maners". We're trying to adequately communicate a concept, and "posters" is the most straightforward definition of who we're talking about. Other descriptors such as nerds, losers, dweeblemeyers, goobers, and dumbasses are too broad, because they can include populations that are not posting on bulletin boards.

NO wait.. I HAVE IT!!!

A granfalloon of posters!

************************************

For those who don't read Vonnegut... here is a definition of the word...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granfalloon
it is a group of people who outwardly choose or claim to have a shared identity or purpose, but whose mutual association is actually meaningless in terms of fulfilling God (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God)'s design. The most common granfalloons are associations and societies based on a shared but ultimately fabricated premise.

and the opposing word "karass" is defined here

That should be one of the poll options. It doesn't even need to be followed by " - of posters".

Highly logical, Mr. Rain Man. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

In that event, I shall nominate ...

A Puddlewaddin of Posters.

My rationalle is as follows .... a puddle is a low place in the ground that collects the earth's run-off. And, a waddin is a word that I made up that has "wad" in it. This can mean one of several things including a "glom", a "bunch", a "whole bunch", a "lot", "some", and/or male ejaculate. I can think of nothing more appropriate at this time without risk of dipshittery.

ahh... a subject to drag me back out of lurkdom. Thank you Rainman.

The simplest, most direct phrase would be "a forum of posters", but that doesn't tickle the ear.
The alliterative ones are nice...I think a group of crows, rather than a “murder”, should be a “cacophony”. It seems appropriate for the noise they make and also the sound of the noise they make.

As for posters, if we were writing out our posts, we could be a “pennery of posters”.

Given the often combative, yet nonphysical nature of the internet, a “posturing of posters” might be appropriate.
