Chiefs | Heavy load for Johnson in 2006?

Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson said he has talked with new head coach Herman Edwards and Edwards has told him the team will ride on his back during the 2006 season.

Well to be honest, I think we pretty much rode his back this season too...

I like this idea, but Gonzo needs to be more involved and we need Priest to backup LJ for some 3rd downs, goal line situations, change of pace RB and injury insurance.

I don't want Holmes taking all the goalline carries, though, ala Jerome "i'm from Detroit" Bettis.

LJ isn't no Willie Parker. He'll want the glory. And he'll deserve it.

I don't like the idea (for any team) of a guy doing all the work and standing on the sidelines whilst the other guy gets the 80,000 on their feet.

I'd prefer not to see him get so many 30-carry games.

He had 5 last year in basically half a season. Shaun Alexander, who led the league in carries, had 2.

We need a backup we can trust to shave 5 or so carries off LJ's load per game.

Yeah; the only time I don't wanna see LJ in is towards the end of the 4th when the game is done.

Need to run out the clock? Sure, use your stud. But not when you don't need to.

No. We should use LJ like we used LJ this year and use LJ like the Steelers used Bettis this season. I want to see LJ break some records next season.

if LJ had better instincts on the goal line i'd say leave him in. bottom line priest is a short yardage machine. there were a few times i can remember we missed his ability to sniff out the endzone. this won't make lj happy, but we'll jsut have to tell him to score from 20 yrds or more.
