without conjuring up too many terrible memories, I'd like to hear how some of you got through particularly rough patches in your life where everything seems to be caving in on you.

Keep a positive attitude. I always say to myself this is why you enjoy the good times, because most of the time shit gets all ****ed up. I ususally thank god i am not getting my shit blown up in iraq right now too. Even if i get fired, dumped and all that. I could hop on monster tomorrow and try to give it all one more go, because in life you have to get back up and wear your hard hat and go on. Thats the fun of it. You love life even when it sucks because even when it sucks it's better than death, because you still can scrounge up some good times.

Watching comedies and simply doing your favorite things.

But, the one thing that helped me the most from a very difficult time as a teenager was to write. In one week, I had lost my job, had a car accident, been robbed, lost my girlfriend, ended up with a DUI, and was kicked out of my parent's house. I didn't have any place to go and didn't want to intrude upon friends and their families at the time, so while my mother was at the office one morning I went home. My younger sister who was a complete evil bitch at the time started screaming, "...you're not supposed to be here! I'm tellin' Mom!" I didn't care, so I told her ..."to go ***** yerself or I'll do it for you, you ****..."

It was a lovely time to be me. Just lovely. I was doing a lot of drugs and drinking and staying out late and not coming home.

But that week was a rock turning into a boulder for me. I went to my "old" bedroom and collapsed on the bed. I fell asleep for two days. When I awoke, I couldn't move. I was simply paralyzed by the depression and the amount of sleep. My mother was there when I woke up, and we had a long talk. Next to the bed was a pad and pen and I've never written anything in my life until I picked up that pad and pen and started writing. (I actually still have what I wrote that morning as a brutal reminder).

When I had finished writing that afternoon- I literally jumped out of bed and felt like I had more energy and was happier and actually apologized to my sister and started enjoying the simple things in life again. It was a beautiful experience. I actually won a few literary awards from the stuff I wrote during that period. It was a way to wrestle with my demons without anyone else getting hurt. It was a way for me to kick myself in the azz without anyone else doing it for me. It was a way for me to be honest and true to myself. But, most importantly, it saved me. It saved me. It made me alive again.

My only intention was to go home that day and get in a nap and a bite to eat and then leave....Had I not fallen asleep and started writing, I wouldn't be here today.

I've found that the best way to get over bad times is to work at improving yourself. I've led a pretty serene life for the most part, but when I've had rough stretches, I get a lot more exercise. It burns off stress, it's good for you, and it helps you feel good about yourself when you see that you're getting even better looking than you were before, if such a thing is even possible.

A lot of the world's problems would go away if there were more nudie bars.

USA (most prosperous country in the world) - nudie bars

Middle East (most backwards, hate-filled place in the world) - no nudie bars

Japan (the leader of the Asian Pacific despite lack of natural resources) - nudie bars (or at least those weird porno comics)

North Korea (virtual prison, people starving, no freedoms) - no nudie bars

Need I go on?

Awesome!

I now have a legitimate argument for going to nudie bars! Whoohoo! I'm free! I'm free! Nudies! I love nudies! I'm a nudie freak. I'm ditchin' work right now and hitten' the nudie bars! Thank you, thank you, thank you....

I'm not Dr Phil and I'm not known for sensitivity for self inflicted problems.....[/disclaimer]

Sometimes, bad things just happen. Sometimes, we cause them ourselves. There is always someone in a worse situation, with bigger problems. I learned alot by watching a person with terminal disease, and seeing them accepting and so at peace with their maker....and also from another, helplessly watching an toddler fade away.

It can always be worse.....you can Always make it better.

The only thing you can really do, is make the decision to make things better. Without that step, nothing else is going to help.

Keep putting 1 foot in front of the other, try to keep a positive mindset that you're improving whatever the situation is, and give yourself some small, attainable goals to work towards the better end of this patch you're in.

If you're 500 pounds...set a goal of minus 10...and be happy when you do...and set another 10 as the next goal. If you're in trouble....think about what you've done, take your medicine and modify that behavior. If its a woman/man trouble....sometimes, things aren't as "to be" as we think they are..............and you won't fully realize that until you find that person 10 years later.

Other than that....the standard Prayer and Friends are tough to beat.

Life is full of ups and downs. It's the downs that make us appreciate the ups more. Try to focus on the positives.

Keep busy. I spent the first half of last year in Iraq, where I lost a close friend. Shortly after returning home, I lost everything I owned to Katrina. You've got to stay busy and stay positive and try not to dwell on the negative, things will improve.
