Report: Jets expected to trade Abraham

Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News writes in today’s issue of the newspaper the New York Jets are expected to place the franchise tag on defensive end John Abraham and trade him prior to the draft.

How does that work...?

I think they could trade him and get a low first rounder for him, but not much more than that.

Look if I can get Surtain for a 2nd, I don't think he is worth much more than that

Defensive ends are considered more valuable than corners by most teams.........

Jets are stupid though, we can probably get him for two 6 rounders.

Someone clarify for me, if they put the Franchise Tag on him, wouldn't a trade have to involve a pair of pretty high draft picks (Like two firsts) or is that just if a team tries to sign a Franchised player away from another team?

That is only if a team signs him without a trade once he is franchised. After he is the franchised the Jets can trade him for whatever they want.

If a team just signs Abraham, the compensation would be two first round picks, I believe.

Teams can negotiate with the Jets to remove the franchise tag for lesser compensation.

The Jets wouldn't remove the tag until Abraham and the other team have agreed to a contract.

He's the bedrock of the Chief's team. Just think of the stability he could bring to the Jets. Brings a little tear to your eye.

Well, he has the character that team will need to get through all the rough times they are about to have.

Considering how things have gone for them, I'm almost willing to throw some pity their way, almost. I do love it when East Coast teams and especially NY teams take it hard though.
