Okay, I need some help.

Back in the 1980s, I used to wear a sort of Chinese sandal. I used to buy them at a Chinese store at Metcalf South. They were black cotton with a dark red, maybe dark brown, sole. We used to call them, forgive me, "Jap Flaps."

My question is, does anyone know what these sandals are actually called and if and where they can still be purchased?

Thank you.

Why would anyone call a Chinese sandle a "Jap Flap"?

I think it's a reference to World War II.

On another note, I'd like to have a pair of Viet Cong tire sandals. Those would be cool.

Because Mandarin Sandalin' doesn't quite flow.

I was 13 at the time, and we couldn't come up with a good rhyme with Chinese.

Bob Dole still has a pair of leather sandals with tire tread soles that Bob Dole purchased around 1977.
