Combine Notes: Chiefs on Turkey Day?
The Kansas City Star

Speculation was swirling that the Chiefs could play host to the first Thanksgiving night game that will be part of the new NFL television package this season.
The NFL Network, as part of a new six-year contract, will air the third game of a Thanksgiving Day tripleheader that will follow the traditional games at Detroit and Dallas.
Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt has long advocated that the league rotate at least one of the Thanksgiving Day games among the other teams because the Lions and Cowboys enjoy a competitive advantage by playing a home game in a short week and then having an extra two days to prepare for their next game.
There’s some sentiment among the league’s television committee to award Kansas City a Thanksgiving Day game in deference to Hunt’s longtime pursuit of rotating it. The NFL Network will televise four other Thursday night games during the second half of the season.

My wife is going to be kind of pissed if this happens. In order to get in my family's Thanksgiving day touch-football game, not to mention the 3 NFL games... we'll have to eat Thanksgiving dinner at 7am.

Maybe 6am to play it safe

what if we don't have NFL network?

they can't put games on channels that less than 1/4 of the viewing public has, can they?

I'm just glad I live in KC.

I thought I read something awhile ago about local stations of the teams playing still getting the rights to broadcast the game. Maybe I am completely off on this

This NFL Network bullshit is, well...bullshit.

It's one thing to put them on ESPN, but at least everybody with cable and/or satellite gets it...

Hell bring it...we have Direct TV and they show the NFL channel. It's not too bad on game day.

This is fine and all, but if I can't watch the game (don't have NFL network), then I will really be pissed.

I will withhold my affection for the NFL for a whole week. I'll have a headache. That'll show 'em.

Get digital cable or direct tv. Or find someone who will let you park at their house and watch it.

problem solved.

j/k ...I won't get it either.

If you live in the KC metro the game would be shown on local tv and NFL Network, and for the rest of us it would be on NFL Network. Thanksgiving I guess will be at my parents house this year since they got NFL Network.

What about the 100's of thousands of us that are neither:

1) local to KC

2) subscribers to DirecTV

Just think though, the folks who live away and purchased a dish and buy the Sunday Ticket package get one more perk for their dollar. :)

I'm a season ticket holder but inside knowledge from my job must cause me to be against this move. NFL home games place an incredible drain on a city's safety resources (trust me, they do). Remember we have 250,000+ gather at the Plaza Thanksgiving night to see the lights come on. I'm afraid if both would occur on the same night other emergencies may not be adequately covered.

Now, if they would move the Plaza lighting ceremony.....

I seem to remember a Friday Night Game That Only a Limited # of Chiefs Fan were able to watch Last season..........

Maybe Something Simaliar could be worked out

IMO this is a clear ploy by the NFL Network to put pressure on cable companies to carry their network, and maybe generate DTV subscriptions.
