Jags give Meier contract extension; sign linebacker Gilbert
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly locked up defensive lineman Rob Meier, agreeing to a multi-year contract with the 28-year-old year pass rusher, according to the Florida Times-Union. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Meier was third on the team with six sacks in 2005 while also compiling 47 tackles, forcing a fumble and recovering a fumble. The 241st player chosen in the 2000 NFL draft played in all 16 games last season.
The defensive lineman provides depth at a solid position for the Jaguars, with space-eaters Marcus Stroud and John Henderson on the inside and Reggie Hayward and Paul Spicer rushing off the edges.
In other team news, the club signed reserve linebacker Tony Gilbert, a key member of the Jaguars' special teams unit last season.
