My step daughter, who was at her fathers place at the time said it was a tornado; he agreed.

From the damage patterns I've seen, though, it looks more like a microburst (or a macroburst given the wide area of destruction) than anything.

I'm guessing a macroburst with rotation that gave rise to a tornado after it left Lawrence.
