Umm, that's not what I said. I mentioned the explosions and action scenes in order to inform people on what to expect, i.e. it's not an action flick like someone before was implying.

Don't worry, I'm not afraid of what people will think about it, I hope they see the glaring 9/11 comparisons instead of dismissing it as bullshit. Even with the great idea as it's backbone, the movie wasn't very well done. Editing, directing and pacing were average at best (Portman is amazing though). It was formulaic as shit, the whole [possible spoiler] love interest was pure Hollywood bullshit (yes, I thought about its other meaning - Natalie's character falling in love with the idea, not the man), it's still bullshit.

Conclusion: 8.2/10. Idea - very appealing to me, delivery (direction, not acting) - not up to par.

Just read your review. Gee, thanks cap'n obvious. Although I highly doubt it'll be even close to what the Matrix became. It's pretty mind blowing, but only to certain people (which kind is the question best left for DC Forum). It'll be interesting to see the reaction from the masses, I don't expect much, though. It'll be just a movie, "nothing like the real life."

James McTeigue worked for the W Bros on the Matrix films (as 1st Asst. Director whatever that means). According to IMDB, this is his first time as the main director. You probably know more about this than I do though.

I might go see Find Me Guilty this weekend. Ebert gave it a good write up, and from the commercials it looks funny as hell. Movie about a wise-cracking mobster (Vin Diesel) who represents himself in a multiple-mobster trial. Based on true story.

I heard Vin gained 35 pounds for the role.

It's actually been getting pretty good reviews overall... and he did gain significant weight for the role, and also is almost unrecognizable -- he's got hair.

This movie was ok. I won't see it again. Just another Hollywood film pushing a political agenda, like Lord Of War, etc.

This movie was way overhyped, there was only like 2 action scenes and the rest was political garbage. They hyped it to be action-packed so you'd go see it, but what they do is slam your face with political crap most of the movie. I like the fact that it was about democracy and freedom, but come on...I don't want to hear about that in a supposed action movie, I'm not dumb, I know democracy is awesome, but I don't want to go watch a movie about it. Too much rah rah, this movie was. It's worth seeing once, I guess.

This movie definitely was not on the Matrix level, not even close.

I will say that the guy in the mask (agent smith from the matrix) did give a great performance, he's a great actor, but just too much political junk. I watch that every day on the news, I don't wanna go see 2hrs and 15mins of it in a theatre and pay $5 for it, when I can get it for free on CNN or FOX for about 20 minutes. All I'm saying is if you're gonna hype a movie to be an action movie, it better be that way, leave me the political crap.

I'm actually suprised that this movie is getting only a so-so response on the board. I saw it yesterday and thought it was EXCELLENT! The fact that the story was more plot-driven than action-driven is what made the movie so good. The acting was also excellent (although I'm not really sold on Natalie Portman's english accent). Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I would love to see this one again (especially if I can see it on an IMAX!)

I'm in total agreement, having just got back from seeing on an 80' screen. I'll probably go see it in Imax next.

If your idea of entertainment is digital explosions and impossible action sequences, you'll be sorely disappointed. It's not another Matrix. If, however, you like ideas, plot, and character development in your movies, it's an excellent film to go see in the theater.

The Matrix had the plot, ideas, character development in those movies, and it had action mixed in. V is less action, more political agenda pushing. But yes, V does have a plot, and all that other stuff, but rather boring because we hear about this stuff on the news everyday. Boring, boring, IMO.

There's this little site, rottentomatoes.com. You might have heard of it. People sometimes check out movies on it to see if it fits the profile of movies they like. There's a good chance it might provide a more accurate assessment of a movie than television trailers and hype.

Like all Wachowski movies at this point, It isn't a movie intended for a viewer to check his brain in at the door. They want you to think as they present concepts and connundrums that parallel real life crossing philisophical and politcal boundaries. My problem wasn't that I had to THINK... It was that the movie did all my thinking for me...

This movie was pretty bad. The first three minutes are exposition given through a damned television. Then there is an ultra cheezy 'save the girl' scene, at the end of which they try and make the hero sound intellectual, but he comes off as a nutjob, and quite goofy... Then, there is the ultra political stuff, but really it's just a thinly vailed attack at America's current administration, and Brittian's alliance with America's foreign policy. There is no middle ground. There is no wondering about who is right or wrong. The movie spells it all out for you. Natalie Portman is OK, but really this movie is far below her...

Thanks for your time, now flame away... I'm sure a lot of you guys liked this movie, and good for you. It's just not my cup of tea.

I enjoyed it. The Wachowski's have a wicked sense of humor. I was really amused by the fact they cast the guy that played "Winston Smith" in 1984 as their "Big Brother".

That, and this little gem from Hugo Weaving:

"This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vangquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

All in all, a decent flick for something based on an overwrought comic book.

Heh, that was kinda funny.

Seriously though, why is Riddick your favorite?

I loved his character in Pitch Black, and I knew very well that Chronicles wasn't supposed to have anything to do with Pitch Black but still I was disappointed. I was going to buy the special collector's edition (which does include a 3rd movie) but didn't because I felt let down.

I'm just curious to read your take on it.

I think Riddick is pretty underrated. Sures, its not a classic or anything, but its not awful either. Its actually pretty well made, has a decent story, and the baddies are pretty nasty.

The more i watch it, the better i like it.

I enjoyed the storyline, my problem were the actors chosen, Colm Fiore (sp?) was a bad choice IMO, and the Karl Urban guy was pretty bad too. I think that's what did it for me. I liked the first half the best.

What was surprising for me, after it being touted as a big-budget epic, how claustrophobic it was. Everything is interiors, cellars, hallways and alleys.
