'Hee Haw' Co-Host Buck Owens, 76, Dies

Buck Owens, Flamboyant Country Music Star Famed for `Act Naturally' and 'Hee Haw,' Dies at 76

LOS ANGELES Mar 25, 2006 (AP)— Singer Buck Owens, the flashy rhinestone cowboy who shaped the sound of country music with hits like "Act Naturally" and brought the genre to TV on the long-running "Hee Haw," died Saturday, a spokesman said. He was 76.

Owens died at his home, said family spokesman Jim Shaw. The cause of death was not immediately known. Owens had undergone throat cancer surgery in 1993 and was hospitalized with pneumonia in 1997.

His career was one of the most phenomenal in country music, with a string of more than 20 No. 1 records, most released from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s.

They were recorded with a honky-tonk twang that came to be known throughout California as the "Bakersfield Sound," named for the town 100 miles north of Los Angeles that Owens called home.

I've got a tiger by the tail it's plain to see
I won't be much when you've got through with me
Well I'm losing weight and I'm turning mighty pale
Looks like I've got a tiger by the tail

Here it is for the young'ns who have never heard the song or the lyrics.......... RIP Buck.

They're gonna put me in the movies
They're gonna make a big star out of me
We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely
And all I gotta do is act naturally

Well, I'll bet you I'm gonna be a big star
Might win an Oscar you can never tell
The movies gonna make me a big star
'Cause I can play the part so well

Well I hope you come and see me in the movies
Then I know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time
And all I gotta do is act naturally

We'll make the scene about a man that's sad and lonely
And beggin down upon his bended knee
I'll play the part but I won't need rehearsin’
All I gotta do is act naturally

Well, I'll bet you I'm gonna be a big star
Might win an Oscar you can never tell
The movies gonna make me a big star
'Cause I can play the part so well

Well I hope you come and see me in the movies

The biggest fool that ever hit the big time

My great aunt owned a grocery store in Denton, TX where she employed a young Buck Owens as a grocery bagger.

Did they fool around? Because that would make a great story. Especially if you threw in a couple of dead hookers.

I remember growing up as a kid, we'd get 2 channels on tv (lived out in the country) and god for bid the old man miss Hee Haw.
I can still hear it.
"I'm Buck"
I'm Roy"
I'm picken"
I'm grinen"
Caww, Caww
Corn field,
Grandpaw,
the ignorant twins,
some fat bitch
"Where or where are you tonighttttttt, why did you leave me here all aloneeeeeeeeeee"

and it was on the same time as Flipper :deevee:

If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, gloom, despair and agony on me.

He used to be pickin', but now he's got that grinnin' rictus of death thing going.

I have a question about Hee Haw. Was that a popular show nationally? My parents watched it religiously, but I don't know if it just played well in the rural area, or if people in New York and Los Angeles were watching it, too.

They had some mighty fine looking farmer's daughters on that show. Even at the tender age of nine, I could see that.

It's too bad that he'll be remembered primarily for Hee-Haw. He put out some great music in the '60's and early '70's.

Damn, I loved me some Hee-Haw! I'm not really sure why. I think I would get that funny feeling when I would see those ladies in the daisy dukes and low cut shirts. I didn't really know what it was, but damn I sure liked it!
