2 get prison in Odessa cat deaths
Two Odessa, Mo., men today received three-year sentences in a state correctional center for killing several cats last year with a shovel and other objects.
Brian K. Kleoppel and Jeffrey A. Hoeppner will begin serving their sentences April 10. Both could be considered for probation after 120 days if they prove to be problem-free prisoners during their incarceration.
In January the two men pleaded guilty in Jackson County Circuit Court to four counts each of felony animal abuse and two counts each of misdemeanor animal abuse. The two were charged in connection with a July 24 incident at an Independence mobile home court, where police found five dead cats and two others injured.
