I'm just guessing here, but once the results start coming in they may do some adjusting to their site so that you can obtain the results directly from the first page. If not, I guess you can always just call down to the election authority and tell em you are on their site and ask em where the fock the results are

Petro, Fescoe, Leabo, and most of the other personalities are why 810 has such a presence. People just put up with Kietzmen between all the other programs. At least I think that has to be the reason.

Gotcha. Was gonna say, if it was a tax on the paycheck, the sports players would get a chunk from hell taken out of their paychecks to help pay for this thing. cause they work in jackson county, so they gotta have the taxes taken out and stuff, i think.

alnorth
04-04-2006, 05:17 PM
I hope it passes too, but I would be careful to trust an online poll from a sports radio show.

In general, sports fans, including internet-surfing sports fans who listen to radio, will probably vote for the tax. Thats not who you should be afraid of.

You should fear the little old grandmas of Jackson county, as well as those who dont like sports in general. They will vote no on the ballot and not on this poll. I'd love to see it pass by a huge margin, but I think it will be closer than this poll. If its a blowout, it would probably be in the other direction.

The MO legislature had a bill from an Entertainers Tax to fund the improvements last legislative session, but it was killed in the House.

In Missouri, every opposing professional athlete or entertainer that performs in our state pays a payroll tax on the money they make while performing in a venue in Missouri. Whether it be A-Rod or Pujols or Peyton or Shania Twain. That money was originally designed to go to the Arts fund and help pay for libraries, but overtime it was diverted into general revenue. State Sen. Charlie Shield's bill would have taken the money earned from that tax and paid for improvements to Arrowhead and Kauffman, while paying off some of the debt on The Edwards Jones Dome (?) I believe and wouldn't theoritically have cost the average taxpayer a dime.

Except from the viewpoint that the money was already coming in and therefore it belonged to the citizens of the state already. The guy that wrote the initial letter to not fund the stadiums when there are cuts being made in Govt services such as Medicaid and whatnot is a friend of mine, and I have asked him about it. He's got a point, but my viewpoint is that the money being made by these athletes wouldn't be coming in if Kansas builds an Arrowhead next to the racetrack, or San Antonio somehow lands the Royals. We have to think progressively and ensure that the Chiefs and the Royals are going to be here in Missouri, for years to come.

With that all said, if this thing does fail, I think some of the local radio personalities have maybe convinced me that a new Arrowhead at the Sports Complex alongwith a downtown Kauffman might not be a bad idea afterall, as far as money is concerned for the Royals anyway. If the Royals had downtown games and opened the doors a few hours early, with bars and restaurants in the surrounding area that would be quite a bit of money to be made. I just don't want to lose the tailgating aspect of Arrowhead Stadium and the Truman Sports Complex.

But I honestly believe Keitzman only gripe about this is that he wants downtown baseball so bad, and not the fact that the teams aren't putting up enough money.

That's about all I got.

I wish I had a vote for the new stadium. I'de be more than happy to pay the tax to keep Arrowhead in KC with renovations. I know this sounds pathetic, but watching games at Arrowhead is just about the only hobby I have and enjoy. And one of the handful of things that my dad and I get together for to cheer for the team both of us love. If you live in Jackson County and havn't voted yet, PLEASE get your butt in your car and vote YES for renovations to Arrowhead.

One of my coworkers went to the Royals game yesterday. He said he stood in line to take a piss for over 45 minutes. He also said there were women outside the stadium who simply dropped their shorts and took a whiz leaning up against the stadium because they couldn't get into the restrooms after the game.

They can always find another way to get this rolling roof thing built. Maybe trying to a sponsorship secured for it (similar to what they did for the Sprint Center) to cut some of the cost down. Also by putting on the ballot at another team, not in conjuction with another major project like the stadium improvements, the public will be more receptive to it.

I don't think this completely kills the Super Bowl to KC thing

The Key issue is the part of KC included in the tally. If the vote that already's been KC is KC's 3rd & 5th districts that the issues may be in good shape. However, if the 4th district has already been counted then it could get interesting.

Not to rain on your hate parade, but if there's truly the threat of one or both teams leaving KC, which seems to be the primary argument of this thread for a yes vote.....isn't that more a downside risk for KK and his station than the upside of a new restaurant/condo ownership downtown? That leads me to believe he and his cohorts truly believe what they're saying. I don't think it has much to do with their investment downtown. That's not to say I think they're right (and by the way, 810 and 610 have driven an avid talk radio guy to get XM so there's no love from me toward KK).

Understand all too well that downtown business would benefit. That's the local business owners........ how can 215 million be bad compaired to 600 million for a new one to the tax payers ?

What would they do to the K ? Tear it down, another 1 mill to cover the cost.

Personally, I like the sports complex where it is, easier in and out. Downtown is a parking lot nightmare, going to and from the games.

I'm glad # 1 passed..... too bad # 2 didn't, it could have benefited the whole community.

If you owned property and were looking to open a restaurant downtown, you'd understand the math.

Again, doesn't the downside risk of possibly losing a pro sports team or two far outweigh the upside of a new restaurant downtown?

That is an interesting question. They could probably milk eons and eons of sports conversation out of it. I don't know though.

Bingo. It is the same reason going on rants bashing the Chiefs will get you better sports talk ratings.

Can you believe these clowns in the 810 booth ?

Will the teams leave ? We don't know, but they could after 2007.

Again, somebody who is matmatical wizard explain to me how we could build 2 new stadiums cheaper than renovate 2 ?

How long will the 2 new ones hold up compaired to the 2 renovated ones ?

They wouldn't get anywhere close to the same ratings without the Chiefs during football season, and they'd lose revenue as the Royals home on the radio. That should be a given.....

Short term, they'd be ok. I'm guessing 810 wouldn't be thrilled with being killed off in 3 years.

Why not ? Arrowhead could last another 30,40, 50, 60 years if done right.

Correct. What a lot of people fail to realize is that Arrowhead is one of the few unique stadiums left in the league. The lines of sight, and especially the shape, cannot be found in the new stadiums. Building codes prevent the current bowl design that Arrowhead sports from being duplicated ever again. We should count ourselves lucky that Question 1 passed.

I haven't heard many people crowing about the positive attributes of the Coliseum in the last....decade or two. If I'm not mistaken, LA (the 2nd largest market in the country), is missing an NFL team. I'm thinking lack of facilities is part of that equation.

The Collesium is very out dated. I don't think it has any luxury boxes. Many of the the seats are too far away from the field. You really can't compare it to Arrowhead.

Chiefs | Final vote on stadium upgrades split
Tue, 4 Apr 2006 21:21:20 -0700

Doug Tucker, of the Associated Press, reports Jackson County, Mo., voters split Tuesday, April 4, on a pair of measures to pay for upgrades to Kansas City's sports stadiums, approving a sales tax for renovations but rejecting a plan for a rolling roof to make both facilities climate-controlled. A three-eighth-cent sales tax will raise $425 million over 25 years to renovate the stadiums and add such amenities as a pavilion behind the baseball stadium. The sales tax won by about 5,000 votes, while the roof plan failed by fewer than 4,000 votes. The NFL pledged to award the Kansas City Chiefs a Super Bowl in 2015 if the measures passed.

Missed out on a guaranteed SB and other big events, like the Final Four, that are now going to other cities. I just wonder how much it would have affected the design of the stadium. Would it have taken out more seats?

I am. But I look at from an event stand point. Sports Complex could have so many more different events at the stadiums with the roof.
