View Full Version : It looks like the proposed BSL for Springfield got spanked

worse than goat cheese at a bath house. Good news for MO. This is the feedback I got from the meeting:

The city council meeting went absolutely fabulous last night. It was a
beautiful thing to see these entire people step up to the play and come out
to fight for their family. Just to clarify, there was 54 against and only 1
for the breed restrictions. The other person of 2 that the news said was
pro BSL signed up to speak in the wrong category. I think you can see from
the video that the man who spoke pro BSL is a bit senile.

I must also mention that two young girls (6 or 7 years old maybe) stood up
with their momma's and spoke. One little girl did a whole spiel about how
BSL is wrong and boy, was that emotional or what! She held up a poster with
pictures of her pit bull all over it while she confidentially spoke to the
city council in front of over 133 people. She was followed up a later by a
mother and daughter whom when the mom was done speaking, as they were
walking away the little 7 year old girl turned to everyone and said, "I love
Betsy"
(or Bessy, something along those lines). I will admit that it was freaking
adorable.

A police officer spoke as well. He stated that he'd been on numerous calls
that involved vicious dogs of many breeds and upon calling the AC, they said
to just, "let them run." He along with other officers he knows own pit
bulls with no problems. He reiterated the fact that on all of those calls
he was dispatched to regarding vicious dogs, they were from all sorts of
breeds; not only pit bulls. The Ozarks Kennel Club I believe it was also
spoke out against any form of BSL along with a couple of rescues. One man
who started and owned his own business said that if this passed, he would
pack up and move out of Springfield. Towards the end, a blind woman with a
German Shepard service dog said that her dog would be next because earlier
that night the health department guy said something like, "if another breed
gets big after the pit bull then we'll come back to you then with another
recommendation." After that comment people stressed the issue on when it
will end before there are no large dogs left. The personal testimonials
were well balanced with people who sure did do their research because they
could provide the facts and examples like Ohio where BSL was deemed
unconstitutional. The last thing I must add is the fact that there were
numerous older, white women with pit bulls. Megan and I both walked away
with our eyes opened to that. I was honestly a bit shocked. We're talking
older, white women who are past probably 65. That puts a hell of a face on
this issue. Hopefully Griggs and the other council members will walk away
realizing who will ultimately suffer because of this.

The citizens of Springfield and surrounding areas really stepped up to the
plate last night for their dogs. I can say with no doubts that I woke up
proud to be a "Springfieldian" lol. Were they're a few dummy's who spoke
(my dogs aren't fixed and I let them out the front door to play with the
neighborhood kids all the time)? Yes, of course but regardless they meant
well. 54 to 1, I believe it's clear what the citizens of Springfield think.
Let's see if the city council chooses yet again to ignore the advice of
professionals who were on the original non-breed specific vicious dog
committee along with Springfield public's opinion. The next meeting is on
April 17th.

Yes but it went as about as good as it can go. One of the things that I have noticed since really following this is that the backlash from the community seems to be getting stronger and stronger. Far more of these proposals are failing than passing which is a big change from a year ago. I think people just need to know what's really going on instead of listening to the media and that will change everything. Another thing I have noticed is the that there has been a lot of police support for the breed. The Sheriffs up where I am at love them. You can see one spoke out in Springfield too.

One thing I have noticed that people seem to be unaware of is the fact that HSUS has basically become PETA. They have completely different attitudes about these two organizasions and the sooner they know the truth the better off we will be.

A friend of mine owns a pit bull, and they have two little girls in the house. Angel (the pit bull) is really good with them. I think the only real danger about her is her tail when she gets excited. I've learned to be careful around her if I'm wearing shorts...lol.

I think the key is just exposure, it cuts through all the BS the media is putting out there. Last year I took my buddies female out to a park and put up a sign up that says pet a real pit bull. After a few dirty looks someone always comes up which leads to a bunch of people. The comment I always get is "these are really nice dogs" One day in the park you will convert a ton of people and also get many to vote against your local polititian that is for BSL. I want to do it a lot this year but they keep kicking all dogs out of the parks here. :cuss:

Personally I think its people who are the problems not the dogs. Of course that goes with alot of things.

The latest thing is these psycho Peta types taking animal aggressive dogs and releasing them in parks where there are other dogs like up in SF. It's so obvious who is doing it it isn't funny but you will never see the media suggest anything like that. All they want to do is talk about the horror all these pit bull owners are causing.
