Ok, Im probably coming totally off base on this, but does ZG's entire thing make you think that maybe he was sexually abused when he was younger? He's really quite, a loner, not too self-confident in himself and says some weird ass stuff to the reporters.

This is what Baird said in a quote on Kcroyals.com

"For the issues he's been going through, I'm really proud of him. He's a courageous young man."

That right there almost seals it in my mind, he was possibly physically or mentally abused sexually.

Anybody else have any thoughts on the matter?

I have no idea what would make anyone think that. There hasnt been anything said on what his issues are. The guy is still just a kid playing in a man's game on a national spotlight (for the most part). Nothing leads me to believe that he was sexually abused in anyway.

Anyone know anything about his growing up....

maybe poor or white trash? Or dead parents? Or other tragedy? :hmmm:

Or....maybe his family is Bronco fans? :spock:

You dont have to know what happened to speculate anything really. Ive taken some psychology classes and I know what to look for in people that were sexually abused when they were younger children. I just see a couple of signs in greinke that point to the possiblity.

lol. His first game, i was there to watch it. It was definitely a national spotlight for him then. Stadium was nearly packed, it was a friday night game i think.

Heh, what I meant by that was that he plays MLB. He's the best picthing prospect the Royals have had for some time. Most true baseball fans know who Zach Grienke is.

I could be totally wrong with all this, but when i read that one quote there from baird, and seeing his demeanor it just said sexually abused to me. Im probably wrong though, just an observation.

He is what, 21, 22 years old. His whole life sports have come easy. He went through high school and the minors blowing people away with pure talent. He starts to believe all the hype about him being the next Tom Glavine. He gets called up to Kansas City and his time as an ace pitcher at baseball's highest level has arrived. He's never known anything but pure success. He's here, in the majors, his childhood dream has come true.

But something is wrong. He's giving up home runs. He's on a team that doesn't play great defense. Hitters can hit his stuff. Just talent isn't enough anymore.

I can see why it might have an effect on someone. He's never had to try at anything, probably. Sounds like a sports psychologist along with some time back in the minors might just be what he needs.

Its probably something simple as the organization touted him as the next Nolan Ryan and all the pressure got to him mentally from losing 17 games last year when the Royals thought of him as a 17 game winner.

I could also speculate that he may have gone off to get treatment for alcoholism.
Doesn't mean he did but it's just another wild speculation. :hmmm:

LeBraun James and Brett Saberhagen were really special...in terms of adjustment to the "bigs", weren't they?

Also when i read that quote from baird, it just kinda seemed weird to me. why would he call him a courageous person? just seemed a little extra for something like just depression. it takes courage to come out about sexual abuse, maybe?

I've always thought starting pitchers are a weird bunch. There's just something that's a little different with them than from the rest of the team.
