This is perhaps my favorite Chiefs trivia question. He threw the ball, it was batted by a defensive linemen, and he caught it and ran with it, forever disproving Grbac's complaint that a quarterback can't throw it and catch it, too.

Okay, here's an easy one. Who did the Chiefs originally hope would be Art Still's bookend at defensive end?

Judges?

Ding, ding, ding!

Art Still was drafted with the 2nd pick of the 1st round in 1978, following only Earl Campbell. The Chiefs held the 1st pick of the 2nd round, and drafted another highly touted defensive end named Sylvester ("almost a first-rounder") Hicks. While Art Still went on to fame and fortune, Sylvester Hicks became destined to be the second-best defensive end named Hicks in Chiefs history.

cdcox's turn.

Actually, here's a trivia question for which I don't know the answer. When I look at the 1978 draft, it looks like the Chiefs were alternating between the first and second pick of each round.

While Art Still is one of my favorite players ever, I'm curious. Did we lose Earl Campbell in a coin flip or something? How did the draft work at that time?

I bolded the Chiefs, and note the pattern. Just for grins, I also italicized who I thought was the best pick in each round. There were a ton of good first-rounders in this draft, and then the talent level dropped quickly.

I would just like to say that Brad Johnson did that and also scored a TD after catching his own pass after it was bounced off a Lineman's back...in 1997; a few years before Trent did.

While Art Still is one of my favorite players ever, I'm curious. Did we lose Earl Campbell in a coin flip or something? How did the draft work at that time?

...

I believe teams with the same record will break ties with the SOS, or something like that. The weakest SOS picks before stronger, implying that with a weaker SOS, they should have done better I guess. All those teams in that tie-breaker then alternate order in subsequent rounds. Look at this year's draft order, how some teams with equal records switch up in the different rounds.

Very good!

In 1978 the Chiefs rushed for 2986 yards, third highest ever in the NFL for a single season. This was from Marv Levy's winged T.

Tony Reed was the leading rusher with 1053 yards, followed by Ted McKnight with 627, Arnold Morgado with 593, Mark Bily with 298, MacAurther Lane with 277. Talk about your RBBC!

In 1983, Bill Kenney threw for 4348 yards with Todd Blackledge tacking on another 259 in the Air Mackovic attack. Carlos Carson lead all receivers, hauling down 1351 yards worth of passes.

You're up ChiefsCountry!

I wouldn't know where to look, but I would guess that DT and Neil Smith are #1 and 2, respectively in sacks.

Willie Lanier and Bobby Bell are #1 and 2 in tackles.

Johnny Robinson and Emmitt Thomas are #1 and 2 in ints.

Cool.

It's amazing that Eric Hicks is ranked 5th in Chiefs history in sacks.

On the career tackles, the greatness that was Art Still is apparent. As a defensive end, he ranks second in all-time tackles, and he's also third all-time in sacks. On a strong team, he would have been a Hall of Famer.

Also, check out Barbaro on the interceptions. He ranks 4th, despite only being around seven years. Had he played with the Chiefs for another five years at that level, he would've been our all-time leading interceptor. I hope the USFL money was worth it.

OK, you go then:
I got this answer :The Texans-Chiefs' 10-season AFL record of 92-50-5 was the best of any AFL team. Head coach Hank Stram became the only man to serve as a head coach throughout the AFL's history.

This is what I got...

Three Time AFL Champions:

With a 17-7 win over the Oakland Raiders in the '69 AFL Championship game. And more to the story. During the AFL's existance, the Chiefs compiled a league-best 87-48-5 (.639) regular season record under head coach Hank Stram.

I just did, too. I guess I'll hold up for a bit as well. Three hints: Otis lateraled in the play, to a RB with a familiar last name, and Lenny was hurt most of the SB year.
