I'm calling for the head of Jeremy Affeldt. He's had plenty of chances. It's time to 86 him. We have enough problems without pitchers that consistently put the team in a hole.

Let's quit wasting innings on a guy who shows no signs whatosever of maturing into more than he is. Get him off the effing team.

kc1977
04-12-2006, 11:34 AM
This is so messed up - YOU HAVE TO PITCH TO SOMEBODY. It is beyond me why you don't just pitch to these guys - we try to pitch around them, but then we walk them and then we are forced to groove them into the next batter - all of which are just as lethal, if not more than the batters walked.

You just can't pitch around any of these guys - it only fills the bases and then you are forced to groove it.

Buddy Bell: I think we need to be patient. We chose to make Affeldt a starter, and that is what he will be.

CP: But Buddy, he sucks! What about Sisco? Did you notice he sucks at the moment as well?

Buddy Bell: I think we need to be patient. We chose to make Sisco our set up man, and that is what he will be.

CP: At this rate Buddy, we will hate you by the end of May.

Oh yeah it might. Then when he goes somewhere else and succeeds, everybody's memory will be "we didn't give him enough time".

I don't know, but that was exactly what I was talking about. Bernie Williams looked silly there. Affeldt was trying to start the game with the two fastballs and break the curve in later. Having an offspeed pitch to go to as that 2nd pitch instead of a cutter would be a lot better, if he could get the ball in the strike zone.

Yeah, but we were also coming into the left handed part of the lineup. Giambi/Matsui/Cano, etc. We were also playing the matchups.

19 pitches isn't a lot... but if he goes out for another inning and gets up to 32-35 pitches, that is a lot.

At least let him open the 8th. One or two batters. If he gets them out, go to the closer. If not then bring in the cannon fodder.

Heck, if we had even one more good starter. Bautista and Grienke are both potential top of the rotation guys. Elarton has pitched very well so far. Redman is a ML quality pitcher.
Anyone know what starting pitchers are free agents after the season?

I agree. I loved our off-seaspn this past year. Trouble is we dont have the one or two superstars needed to be a really good team. Instead we got fringe players.

I have a different philosophy than the rest of the baseball fans on the board about this. I'd rather start a reliever off fresh with a clean slate, than try to stretch somebody and bring the other reliever into a problem.... like we did with Burgos yesterday.

Plus... we might need all of these guys again today. We're in the 5th right now and we've already got Hudson up. After him is Stemle... and then we're back to the guys we used yesterday.
