49ers send Woods to Chargers for Davis
Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday traded wide receiver Rashaun Woods to the San Diego Chargers in exchange for cornerback Sammy Davis.
The trade involved a pair of former first-round picks. Woods was grabbed by the 49ers in the first-round of the 2004 draft, while the Chargers selected Davis in the opening round of the 2003 draft.
Davis has played in 44 games, 30 of those starts, and has totaled 122 tackles, three interceptions, one sack and 20 passes defensed in his three-year career in San Diego.
"This was an opportunity for us to strengthen ourselves at a position of need with a proven NFL starter," said San Francisco head coach Mike Nolan.
Woods spent most of last season on injured reserve with a thumb injury and became expendable after the 49ers signed free agent wide receivers Antonio Bryant and Bryan Gilmore.
