Great article, written by a Chiefsplanet member!

K-State brings streaks to town
A 16-game hitting streak, a 19-game non-conference winning streak and three in a row over WSU will be put to the test tonight.

MANHATTAN - Brandon Farr's chin stubble is getting a little thicker than his mom would prefer.

It's one of those superstitious baseball things for the Kansas State catcher. He's riding a 16-game hitting streak, and despite his mother's wishes, the whiskers aren't going anywhere until the hitting streak is halted.

"She got on me a little bit," Farr said."... But the facial hair is still going. It's tough not to think about it (the hitting streak), but as long as I'm helping the team, that's all that matters."

Farr's hitting streak, the goatee and K-State's 19-game non-conference winning streak will all be on the line tonight as K-State visits Wichita State at Eck Stadium.

The Wildcats moved to 3-8-1 in the Big 12 after splitting two games and battling to an 11-11 tie in the series finale at Texas Tech over the weekend. The conference record is only good enough for ninth place in the Big 12 standings, but K-State's .712 overall winning percentage is the league's third best.

K-State hasn't lost a non-conference game since Feb. 17, its second game of the season.

"Our confidence level is high," coach Brad Hill said. "I think every time we step on the field we have a chance to be successful. That's obviously been a turning point for us."

The hot start followed by a tough go of it in Big 12 play seems similar to K-State's 2004 season, Hill's first in Manhattan. The Wildcats started that season 19-6 but wound up winning just five conference games.

Hill sees no comparison, though.

"It's a complete different team than we were two years ago," he said. "There's a lot more things the coaching staff is looking for. These (players) understand what we're trying to do here. It's a different situation than '04."

That season was also the last time K-State lost to WSU. The Wildcats have since won three straight against their in-state foe, including a 6-3 victory in Manhattan last month.

"Everybody knows them (the Shockers) around the country," Farr said. "Wichita State is a well-known program, and that's what we want to be. If we can go out there and get a fourth win in a row from them, then hopefully that's another step in the right direction for us."

Here is another one:

Shockers Host Kansas State Tuesday Night

The Wichita State baseball team (27-13) hosts in-state rival Kansas State (23-9-1) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The game can be heard live on KNSS 1330 AM with Mike Kennedy and Terry Elliot calling the action.

Wichita State leads the overall series with Kansas State 47-23 and 44-11 under head coach Gene Stephenson. WSU leads the series in Wichita 28-13 overall and 25-6 under Stephenson. WSU had won nine in a row in the series, but has now lost three in a row.
