I am a lady who is crazy for horses and school.
I wonder if my sister thinks about me when she is in school.
I hear my brain exploding because Mr. O teaches me too much.
I see Jesus and the angels shining down on me at night.
I want a horse really bad.
I am a lady that is crazy for horses and school.

I pretend to be a teenager.
I feel that books open up to me and tell me to read them.
I touch my brain.
I cry when my dad smokes.
I am a lady who is crazy for horses and school.

I definetly understand that I can be annoying at times.
I always say I don't like being scared.
I dream I am famous.
I try to stay on task at school.
I hope that I will go to heaven.
I am a lady who is crazy for horses and school.

I went and ate lunch with my nine year old, and this is a poem she wrote as part of a project. Thought I'd share it with the board.

Touching.

When my youngest daughter was in kindergarten, she drew picture, brown with a red crooked streak down the middle of it.

SHe had a name for the picture...

"Jesus on the Cross Closeup"

I'm still humbled by that picture... hangs by the dining room table.

What is it about horses and lil' girls....my daughter loves horses too.

She has one of her own at her aunt's farm in Iowa.

The insight our children provide is amazing. My daughter was four when she came up with our family mantra while watching me work on some menial task (like putting together a bookcase or computer desk) and realizing I'd installed a piece backward or something:

me: Crap, that's not right...

lauren: Don't worry, Dad. Happiness makes mistakes.

I love that sentiment.

Good on your daughter stevieray. Just make sure she dosen't try to lead the French in some armed revolt against the English (al la Joan of Arc)!

Nice one stevieray. Moving stuff. Great kid you've got there. Kudos for raising her.

As for being no Emily Dickenson, how is that a bad thing? What parent wants their kid to grow up to be a recluse wearing all white whose poems can all be read to the tune "The Yellow Rose of Texas"? :D

Our kids must be genetic throw backs. Kids don't get dirty, playing game boy, nintendo, on the computer, watching TV, etc.. My kids do all those things....but WAY prefer to be outside riding bikes and getting dirty!!
