If you don't know anything about the race you probably have a better chance of picking a winner than someone who does so don't be shy.

Laywer Ron won a couple of races here in Arkansas including the Arkansas Derby. I gotta go with him.

Have I mentioned you suck? I'll be at a local track in Hershey where the live races will start shortly after the Kentucky Derby Race. First time I been to the horse races since Bwana was out here, pretty pumped.

As long as there are no changes Jazil is going to be my big bet for the day. Probably about $25 - $50 across the board as well as some other side bets to cover the contingency of Jizel not coming in the top three.

Gotta love gambling.

Do you know anything about him? Distace runner? Sprinter? Mudder?

Come on you limp nipples, just pick a horse, you don't have to know anything about them. Pick a name you like.

I need a un-scientfic side-bet for Saturday.

If I win I'll send the people who picked that horse a six-pack of a local micro-brew or a pic of me counting the money. I'll decide the day after.

Sinister Minister 10-1

I wonder which one PastorMike will vote for? :hmmm:

Steppenwolfer- just cause a guy from Spfld owns him(2nd Ar Derby) and he got a decent gate pick. SW was 30-1 on the 6pm sportscast last eve.

I never thought about this before, but if you give your horse a name that sounds really slow, will it give you higher odds if your horse wins, since the amateur bettors won't like the name?

If I had a race horse, I'd name it "Moseying Aimlessly", and then I'd bet money on it. The name wouldn't make the horse faster or slower, but it might bump the odds in my favor.

It's one helluva time out there. You should make a trip to the infield to get the whole experience. As for me, this year I'll just go to a few Derby parties. Bet with the bookies and hopefully have enough money to go out to 4th Street Live or the Highlands.

1st Lawyer Ron
2nd Steppenwolfer
3rd Barbaro
4th Bob and John

JMO :D

I'm going with Lawyer Ron. He's tough, seasoned, and loves to run. He won't be a big price, but I like 5/1 winners! I think he'll deal with all the traffic problems and pace scenario that does in a lot of good horses. I think Barbaro will be close, and Steppenwolfer is my outsider. I think he'll be in the 15-20/1 range by post-time.

Sorry Otter, I'm not a Jazil fan, but I wasn't a Giacomo fan either. Good luck with him. If you do that bet, and he wins, then :toast:.

OTOH, I am a friend of the breeder of Private Vow, so I'm hoping he wins, but I just don't think he will get the distance.

I chose Barbaro in the poll, but I think I'll put my money on Sinister Minister. Nice odds on a horse that has a fair chance to go wire to wire. Look for him to jump to a big lead early, then it's just a matter of hanging on.

Steppenwolfer $25 beans across the (thank you ChiefsPlanet)
Jazil $25 across the board
Barbo $5 across the board for good karma
Sinister Minister all the above

and the superfecta:

Brother Derek

The Derby is a mile and 1/4. You don't want your horse out front too early he's just going to die. I've only seen one horse (forget the name)get out front early and win.

I've only seen one horse (forget the name)get out front early and win.I think it's pretty likely that Sinister Minister will die out down the stretch. But for the 10-1, it's worth it to me to bet that he can hold the lead.

Betting the favorite just isn't fun.

Going with Cause To Believe to win in real life.

Long odds, but has already beaten Sinister Minister and A.P. Warrior at 1 1/16 miles. I like the pick as an underdog (underhorse?). Should I win, there will be Mint Juleps for everyone.

The ex loved horseracing. She'd read all the handicap sheets, check conditions, dig into the horses health, see if the jockey was due to win, etc...

Then she'd always bet on the grey horse. I kept track and her 'horse of a different color' rule worked about as well as any other system.
