With more than 1/3 of the year gone by, what albums released so far do you find to be the best?

1. Tool - 10,000 Days
2. Enslaved - Runn
3. Psycroptic - Symbols of Failure
4. Wolfmother - Wolfmother
5. Ghostface Killer - Fishcale

Alright, I've heard enough hype around here that I'm going to have to go and get WolfMother.

And is it just me, or does it seem like somebody opened the vault to the 80's and early 90's, and all the bands from the era are putting out greatest hits compilations?

If Bob Dole was a has-been rocker with a catalogue, Bob Dole sure as hell would be re-releasing stuff and taking advantage of the digital music revolution.

Though this "sentence" is practically indecipherable, I am excited to hear the new Method Man album sounds like his old work.

I have found only one album worthy of purchase thus far in 2006: Tool's 10,000 Days. :thumb:

Other than that CD I've been listening to XM radio... which I absolutely love!!! (esp XM Comedy)

I have also refound my appreciation for OLD Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here, and Animals are now in regular rotation. "Welcome to the Machine" = brilliance

I do share MP3s; hit me up on Soulseek if you really want them. It may not be worth it, though. :) I mean, "Runn" and "Symbols of Failure" are really, really, really good albums... but they are very extreme varities of metal.

Well, to be accurate, Enslaved is Norweigen black metal. Post-black or progressive black metal, most accurately. Psycroptic is indeed death metal, my fav death metal band, from Australia, moure accurately, Tasmania!

And Hells Yeah I know Origin. Fast, brutal, and technical - good stuff.

Thus far, in no certain order:

DJ Drama & Yo Gotti I Told You So Mixtape
J Dilla Donuts
Bronze Nazareth The Great Migration
Ghostface Fishscale
Gnarls Barkley St. Elsewhere

Honorable mention: Cunninlyguists A Piece of Strange & Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor

The Bronze Nazareth is the closest thing to capturing the old Wu sound since Masta Killa's No Said Date, and is already my favorite Wu fam release since Supreme Clientele.

I wouldn't hold out any hope whatsoever for Meth to drop anything worth a ****. He was in the studio with RZA for a straight month and only came out with 3 tracks...that doesn't bode well, considering Meth has a horrible ear for beats.

Looking forward to the rest of the way:

DJ Shadow The Outsider

I'm a HUGE Shadow fan, and while people are already complaining about the direction he's taken, I can't wait to hear it.

Madvillain 2
J Dilla The Shining
Madlib solo album
New Project Pat album
Rae's OB4CL 2, though I doubt it drops this year.

The Arctic Monkeys...British kids, their song "Fake Tales of San Francisco" is as good a rock song as I've heard in years...they're what I wish was played on the radio (I didn't want to like them either becuase they were the latest indie hype new band flavor of the week)

the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs was a huge - huge - disappointment...the Monkeys made up for it

been curious about the Dilla cd some mentioned...read some articles about his life/death...

Usually I'm very unimpressed with the latest uber-hyped British band of the year, but the Arctic Monkeys have an awesome record. The song "When the Sun Goes Down" might be my favorite rock song of the year.

A friend of mine got the Obie Trice from a website... I think it was called simplemp3.com or something like that. I got Outkast, Kanye, and too many others, all weeks before they came out. I don't know of a good way to send it to you, but I would. let me know.

Oh, I'm not dissing him for having the balls to make the statement. It's just the way he did it, he seemed blubbery and nearly incoherent. I realize that he was overcome with emotion, but it's just the way he came across, like he was mentally challenged or something.

Wolfmother is very good. Reminds me a lot of 70s hard rock bands... kind of a cross between Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, and Black Sabbath. Then throw in a bit of White Stripes to modernize it. Overall, I'm fairly impressed. :)
