I just got a new DVD burner for my PC and I have pretty much figured out how to do most things with it. BUT, I can't seem to copy a DVD no matter what I try.

I did an .iso image of a 60 minute DVD (under 4gb) and then when I try to burn it is seems that only every other frame is on the copy, resulting in blocky video that seems like it is in fast forward. Is this some sort of copy protection or am I just missing something?

DT

In case you are wondering.. I am trying to copy one of my 6 yr old's dvd's, he tends to destroy them in a short order, so I'm hoping I can give him a "working copy" to destroy this time...

Copying DVD's is against the law-sorry I am going to have to call the FBI.

Sorry I can't help you, I accidentally checked into a Days Inn instead of Holiday Inn last night. :banghead:

What software are you using to burn the DVDs?

If you use DVD Shrink it does all the work for you except actually burn the files to a DVD. It's free software that can be downloaded here:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

Also, some newer movies, since around the time "The Great Raid" came to DVD, have added protection which make them more difficult to burn.

Decode it with this and then burn it with your software.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

Or if you have Nero this program makes it really simple:

You can use DVDFab to rip the files down...

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdfab/

DVD2One to compress the video to fit on a DVD (4.7 GB)...

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/dvd2one.cfm

And finally the newest version of Nero Ultra Edition software to burn the .vob files to DVD video. This you can purchase from Best Buy or CompUSA or online @ www.nero.com

One step burner.
Download this and load it. Be sure you dont let it connect back once it installs.
http://www.gigglesnfarts.com/DVD_Copy/DVDXCopy_XPRESS_v3.0.2_full_install.exe

Then download this, copy it, and then just drop it in the DVDXCopy folder and overwrite the existing exe file.
http://www.gigglesnfarts.com/DVD_Copy/replacment/XPress.exe

When you go to burn a movie, open it up in your DVD player before you open DVDXCopy, then shut down the player.

This looked like a great solution, but when I tell it to backup the hourglass comes up for about 20 seconds, and then the program closes. I am about to throw this damn thing across the room...

Couple things off the top of my head:

Go to Start > Run > type "MSCONFIG" then hit 'enter' > goto the "startup" tab > uncheck any other DVD burning programs that are in there. There may not be any but if there are, uncheck them.

Reboot

Open up Shrink, Click on "Open Disc" and try again.

If you do make any changes in MSCONFIG a window will pop up after reboot. Just check "don't show again" and "don't reboot" or "OK".

If that makes any sense...give it a try. If you don't want to play if MSCONFIG just try rebooting after installing the software.

I think those programs make crappy copies. I have used dvd copy, dvd express, dvd2one, dvd fab express. They all make copies, but all seem to pale in comparison to DVD Shrink.

DVDshrink is still the best I have used as well. Also like the simple, no BS interface.

DVD Shrink is by far the best. The reauthoring tool is outstanding.
