Front dash tweeter is blown, and I don't care to replace it with 6 other speakers working fine.

Anyone know anywhere to get instructions or an easy way to disconnect it?

It's a 99 Chrylser LHS.

There rarely is an easy way to get to a front dash speaker.

You might be able to reach the wire from under the dash directly below the speaker.

I drive a 99 Chrysler 300M (virtually identical to the LHS) and had to replace it in my car as well. It's probably easier to disconnect it in the dash itself rather than cut the wire at the amp. It's not that difficult to get to if you want to try. I don't remember where the instructions I used are, but the basic idea is this:

Remove the left and right A-pillars. These are the the plastic pieces that run from the dash to your ceiling on between the windshield and either door. These just pop off - no screws at all. Just be patient, find where the clips are, and give it a good yank. They'll come off.
This will expose some screws on either side of the dash. Remove those and the big plastic piece that runs the entire length of the dash will lift out, exposing the center speaker. Just unplug it.

If you insist on cutting the wire, the amp's in your trunk behind the passenger-side rear wheel. Just pull back the trunk liner to access it. You can just cut the wire that leads to the front speaker. It should be pink and black. Here's the full list of wires:

If you're still unclear about what you're doing, check out http://www.dodgeintrepid.net. It's a great resource for the Intrepids, Concordes, 300s, and LHSs.

If you're going to the trouble of removing the dash, why wouldn't you just replace the speaker?

Well, I did. It's more trouble than it sounds, though. That series of cars use an infinity sound system that uses 2 ohm speakers, which are basically impossible to find outside of OEM parts.

So what did you replace yours with? Here's Crutchfield's selection of speakers, filtered to a 1999 Chrysler LHS with the Infinity system.

Their tech assistance is very solid too, so if you buy from them and struggle with installation, you can call and get help.

I went out and looked at that amp, and my goodness, there are about 200 wires jammed into there, soooo...

Where are those clips on the A-pillars?

Hey. Glad you got it figured out. I'm in Europe right now, or I would have responded sooner!
