View Full Version : A Proposal for Restructuring the Forums

htismaqe
06-15-2006, 09:05 AM
Rather than make everyone wait any longer, I've decided to release a somewhat "less than perfect" solution that will at least incorporate the most-wanted/most-needed changes.

Please review and vote either "Yes, I like it" or "No, I don't like it"

PLEASE do not inundate this thread with "alternate" suggestions. We've done that thread already. I've tried to incorporate as much as possible from everyone's suggestions.

Old Layout (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/attachment.php?attachmentid=58429)

Proposed Layout (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/attachment.php?attachmentid=58431)

PLEASE NOTE:

The proposed layout was changed at 12pm central time, 6/15/2006. If you voted before that time and would like to change your vote, please PM me.

Seriously though, I'm not a good basis to judge activity on; my participation board wide has dramaticaly decreased the past several months (having a life sure sucks some times).

Maybe it is just because I spent a lot of time looking up threads for that forum when it was first created that I don't want to see it disapear. All of that tedious work for not?

I know that, because you're a mod and all, Mr. htismaqe, you don't have to explain anything or justify decisions or even respond to a questiion. And rightfully so, of course.

But, I'm curious as to the logic behind toasting the HOC?

I wish I could describe it easily, but as it has been a few months, and I have slept since then, it isn't something I could tell you off the top of my head. I know you have to go into the admin page and then get into the code. There will be a few places it needs to be changed, once in the header and once in the body, maybe in both default and full viewing modes.

I browse the Hall Of Classics from time to time and I think that it should remain where it is - this is a good opportunity for newer members, such as myself, to see how far back the dumbassery goes - we can go back and see the truly respect earning threads of the few vets who demand respect based on their time here and also we can see where said vets really don't earn respect at all, and we also get to see the funny, oops/I'm leaving type threads. Oh, and also we can't forget the fughts and stuff too.

Shouldn't a Hall Of Fame or Classics have its own thread altogether?

Honestly, the logic behind it is that it's a relatively unused forum. That and I can't really see the reason to have the HoC AND the Romper Room...

Maybe I targetted the wrong forum. :hmmm:

This is the new DIGI-PLANET forum.

It's to hold all the music/movie/tech discussions, which is at least a step up from seperating everything into individual discussions.

Exactly.

It'll be the new digital entertainment forum, as well as tech help.

It doesn't yet have a name, as that will be determined by the community at some point in the future.

I don't know, Mr. mcan. I mean I like DIGI-PLANET, but I sort of like Mr. Logical's name ... The Unyet Defined As Of This Point In Time Concept Forum.

I think it's appropriate, given the content.

For my own part, I think this is a step in the right direction. It's not my perfect Planet (everything thrown back into the lounge except pictures and romper room) but it'll do donkey.

And it'll probably get me to shut up about the format for at least another year.

Benifits: I think the "new forum" will get a lot more activity then a bunch of seperated forums.

Downfalls: I think this takes even more good discussions (movies and such) out of the main forum, which could lead to even more of a rift.

But just like a 3rd round draft pick, I think it'll take a year or so to be able to tell what we have. I reserve the right to fight the good fight again next summer.

As long as the DC Forum and Pictures are isolated, I am content. Can the Planet be configured so that I do not even SEE the DC Forum? I really have no interest in seeing the deliberately-outrageous thread titles.

As far as Romper Room is concerned, by all means get rid of it. Any posts eligible for Romper Room status should simply be deleted, IMO.

In a perfect GazWorld, the Pictures and DC Forum would be on the same level as The Lounge. That way, I could set my bookmark for the Lounge and never bump up against the other Forums.
