Emerging from the landscape, and shaped by nature, the design will create a simple symbolic link - a bridge - between old and new, between people and country and China with the world.

The design introduces an innovative solution to the provision of temporary seats during the Olympic Games. All the temporary seats are under cover and all seats enjoy excellent views to the field of play. It adopts high technology principles for operational management and interaction with the environment.

The moving roof created like two leaves is simple, elegant and economical. After the games, people will be able to walk, via a safe and secure path, along over the leading edge of the roof.

The extended “wings” of the roof, as an integral function of the moving roof and a fundamental part of an efficient roof structure, allow for up to 200,000 people to have a direct experience of the Games .

They need to talk to their landscaping people. It needs some hedges or bushes around the outside. Right now it looks a little too bare.

For what it's worth, this design did actually win the competition and will be the main stadium for the 2008 Olympics. The picture above was cool, but didn't win. You can read about it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing_National_Stadium) if you're interested.

I realize that and am not impressed. That was kinda my point.

Looks like some alien hatchery or something. Heck, they have nicknamed it "The Bird's Nest." I just think it is about the ugliest one they had to choose from.

I agree. Most of the rest of the designs are pretty elegant. I'm sure this one is one hell of an accomplishment from an architectual standpoint, but it looks like someone took a whole bunch of scrap metal, bunched it up an a ball, and then poked a hole in the middle of it. It just doesn't seem fitting for the main venue of the Olympics. Oh well.
