I've got the $27.99 6Mb package, for what it's worth.

You pay $50 for the modem up front, but you get it back in a mail-in rebate.

Speeds are pretty close. DSL (though any company) has an overhead, but you'll see probably 130 KB/s download speeds. I get around 550 KB/s normally.

I got it last year but it was a few dollars more. I've been pretty satisfied with it. The download speed is awesome compared to dial-up and wireless is nice with the 2WIRE router.

I recommend the Pro package. If you watch a lot of streaming video it's worth the extra bucks. You can always downgrade after your year is up if you want to.

I've seen this offer and it sounds very inviting...

but I can't imagine downgrading from 5 mbps to 1.5. The price is great but when you have been on broadband for awhile you will want a faster connection.
