Everyone who played it at E3 loved it, but until review copies start hitting people's hands, I'm going to remain skeptical. I have no doubts it's fun to play, but I need to know how replayable it is, especially considering it has zero multiplayer to speak of.

I'm ALL ABOUT killing zombies. In fact, I long for the day zombies reign over the earth, allowing me to kill at will. But the lack of multiplayer may keep me from dropping $60 on it.

Seriously, won't that be the best end-all mulitplayer in the end...

Damn, that looks good.

I promised myself that I would hold out on getting a 360 until next year when they come out with the HD compatible set (a good reason to update the TV, as well! :D ), and of course Halo 3. But if I keep seeing games like this, I may have to splurge early.

The closer it comes to release date, which is only a few weeks away, the more likely I'll impulse purchase it.

Some of the achievements are nuts:

Zombie Genocider - TYPE: 1 Play REQ: Defeat at least 53,594 zombies.

Frank the Pimp - TYPE: 1 Play REQ: Simultaneously escort 8 female survivors.

Zombie Road - TYPE: 1 Play REQ: Walk over 33 feet (10 meters) on the backs of zombies using the Zombie Ride.

As for the first achievement:

What I can understand about "Infinity Mode"

Rule1 : Normal time limit is now replaced to "starvation". If you getting hungry badly, your life meter will decrese.

Rule2 : Eating is only way to recover your health in Infinity Mode, You know there are tons of stores which hold foods, but this time, the amounts of foods are limited.
(It says "limited" but I think this means "won't respawn" in actual game.)
And other human survivors also want these foods, And fight against Frank with no hesitation, You have to win this survival race!

Rule3 : Compete how many days you could survive, It will be uploaded to Leaderboards via Live.I just pooped a little.

God, I love doing the jump kick. I'm all, "BAM, MOTHER****ERS," every single time. I think I may have to try to go through one playthrough without any weapons other than my fists and feet.

The shotgun and baseball bat are so wonderfully efficient and badass. As for the more whimsical side, well, what can you really even say about running around with a horse head and way-too-small kids' clothes on while plopping Servbot masks on unsuspecting zombies and whacking them ineffectually with a toy lightsaber? Or throwing bags of flour/garbage cans/stuffed teddy bears/handbags/hangers at them?

I really like the way the zombies behave. They're mostly a bunch of shambling, utterly mindless bags of meat, but the odd ones who come running at you really keep you on your toes; and the ones who trip and fall down make me laugh every time.

When you start to feel crowded, you don't get the sense that they're working together at all, and I mean that in the best way possible. It's really, really well done. I also like the sense of urgency that builds as you're trying to set up to take a good photo while trying to avoid having chunks of your flesh eaten.

There's just so much variety that I don't even have any fears that it will get stale any time even remotely soon. There are so many things to do, and so many ways to do them; one minute never feels like the next. This is a joy to play, and it's a time-limited demo with no story progression and only a tiny portion of the mall/items available. Amazing.

Exactly.

Their behavior is absolutely perfect. True to the movie mythology, they're only powerful in numbers. In the demo, I usually make my way up to the second floor, where the population is thin. Minute by minute, more zombies creep up the stairs, and you can find yourself overwhelmed.

EDIT: Operation: Kill 500 zombies in 15 minutes is not yet a success. 491 is my top score, made with the combo of the katana, shopping cart & uzi.

Bought the game, I love it, mostly because I am a horror movie nut..

7 out of 10

The game plays and is set up free roaming like GTA series... All tons of crazy weapons and clothing options.. Which they are also going to do downloadable add ons to the game..

The graphics are good but not great, think a lot better version of the GTA graphics, it is sweet seeing 200+ zombies trying to attack you at once..

The sound is top notch...

The only bad thing about the game is the save system, you get one save and when you die you start the game over but you keep your lvl..

more to came later back to work for me..

This game is pure joy.

Well, pure joy and pants-crapping fear.

The graphics are good but not great, think a lot better version of the GTA graphicsThey're not really even close enough for that to mean much. GTA's graphics were terrible and bland, out of necessity. Dead Rising's graphics are very nice, and very detailed (especially on an HDTV, or so I hear).

The only complaints I have are the text being extremely hard to read on my SDTV and the main mission structure being so strict that you miss out on it if you take too long to get back to the security station (like after the third mission, when I didn't realize I needed to go back because I couldn't read any-damn-thing). I don't mind the save system, because I head to the bathroom as often as possible to keep from losing any progress. It really adds to the tension when you're down to one bar of life and trying to get past a crowd of zombies after having not saved for a while.

The psycopaths are TOUGH, and the game in general is a lot harder than most people probably expected it to be. There's replay value in droves, though, even beyond however many run-throughs it will take to complete the main story and open unlimited mode.

I don't know if I can tell someone to spend a bunch of money on a system for just this game, but if you have the cash, GO FOR IT. The system is outstanding in its own right; Dead Rising is just a shining jewel that makes it so much better.

Umm, unless my version is different when I save all it does is save my lvl unless you mean progression as in terms of character lvl and not game progression... I have not made it out of the first night in the court yard...

Also on the graphics I am comparing to what I have seen the 360 being capable of... And I am running the game on HD and it looks great but comparing it to when I play elder scrolls or cod2 and it seems average...

Ha, I just completed case 2-4 in thrilling fashion. Frank was dragging his ass across the North Plaza, across the park (avoiding the convicts, thankfully), across Paradise Plaza, and across the warehouse while desperately hoping I'd make it back in time. By the time I got to the security station, there was literally NO red bar remaining. I raced through the door to greet Tits McGee and Ving Jr., then muttered prayers of thanks that I hadn't ****ed up my game by saving after the boss fight.

On an unrelated note, Adam the Clown's death scene was wonderful. Frankly, I loathe clowns.

Also on the graphics I am comparing to what I have seen the 360 being capable of... And I am running the game on HD and it looks great but comparing it to when I play elder scrolls or cod2 and it seems average...Well, that's the thing. Dead Rising looks average compared to its peers on the 360. GTA looks awful compared to its peers on the PS2/Xbox.

Just for the record, mannequin torsos are weapons of mass destruction. Combine them with the hobby book, and you become a mannequin-swinging samurai.

I beat the shit out of Adam with one this morning, and it was positively delightful. Speaking of Adam and super-weapons, his re-spawning chainsaws are as effective as cheating. Larry the Butcher didn't know what the ****.

Also, for some reason, even in meaningless "level up so you don't get raped in Overtime mode" ****ery, the maintenance tunnels fill me with an immense sense of fear and dread. Whenever a vehicle breaks down in the middle of a crowd of a thousand zombies, I want to cry.

There's far more than the save issues, made worse by the fact that most of the problems with the game are interwoven, creating an inescapable web of rape, driving you to the brink of suicide at any time.

Just as an example, in the game you receive radio calls from a security officer overlooking the mall. This is how you are given the majority of your missions.

If you don't answer his calls, you miss out on some lucrative side missions. If you do answer his calls, you're entering a world of pain. Upon answering the call, you are completely unable to do anything other than run around. If you are attacked, open a door, trigger a cutscene, etc. during any part of the call, he calls you back and you have to start the call over. By itself, annoying, but not game breaking. However, it's paired with the fact that the calls aren't done via standard voice over, they're done by text. So you not only have to avoid zombies, but you have to read the text as well. Again, by itself, reading text not a huge deal. But, the TEXT! The text is ridiculously small, especially on standard def tvs. Oh, and before I forget, this **** will call you at a predetermined time, regardless of what you're doing. Getting mauled by 700 zombies? Tough shit, you better answer that call, or risk missing out on the mission.

And that's just one portion of bullshit you'll have to put up with.

ALL THAT SAID, I haven't been this captivated by a game since Half Life 2. Since I got the game Wednesday, I've played it about 6 or so hours a day, with no stopping in sight until Madden comes out. Yes, while playing the game I'm enraged with some of the things that happen, but my pain is offset by sending zombies into oblivion.

Wow....thanks for the perspective. I have been playing the hell out of the demo, and I can't get enough....personally, I think that I could spend quite a bit of time mauling zombies and not worrying about the missions. I would eventually play the story of the game, but not until after 53,594 zombies met their maker. :D

The Something Awful front page (http://www.somethingawful.com/index.php?a=4010) from Friday describes the Otis situation quite well, I think.

Carlito is running around on the tops of the restaurants in the food court cackling and throwing grenades at me. I'm trying to keep cover and step out just long enough to pop a couple rounds into his face. Things are going pretty good and then out of the blue BZZP, BZZP! Otis has something to say!

I answer and of course immediately suck about ten bullets through my lungs, but that's fine because I'm a good photographer and some of my Pulitzer-worthy shots have made it so that I can absorb unbelievable amounts of punishment. Well, maybe not as much as Carlito, but I'm getting off track here. Otis is complaining about some woman he sees barricaded inside a jewelry store.

I'm like, "let me get this straight, you called me in the middle of a fight with a guy throwing hand grenades at me to tell me that you found a woman safely barricaded inside a jewelry store?"

There is silence on the other end for a couple seconds and then Otis just says, "yeop." ROFL

It's totally worth purchasing, warts and all. I made a conscious decision to take a break from it yesterday, just to avoid PTSD or something, but it's an amazing game. Unless Gears of War lives up to every last bit of the hype, I have trouble seeing a "bigger" game come out this year.

I really want to try Chrome HOunds online, I was a stud at starsiege and mechwarrior 3 & 4...

Its a persistant online game with 20 mechs, as you go on win or lose the game changes until one side wins, then it restarts over... And you have to repair your mech online, so strategy on weapons and armor and money you spend... Also it has rankings and built in guilding systems to form packs(squads), sounds pretty good...
