Damn, I've got those buggers right now.
Tried holding my breath, and putting a teaspoon of sugar at the back of my throat.
NOTHING.
They're as tenacious as Jared Allen versus the Redskins.

Any suggestions?

Calorie Free Methods:

• Take large noisy gulps of water until gone
• Have someone scare you...but ya' can't know when they gonna do it
• Hold your breath for as long as you can

The sugar in water never worked for me...and just went on my thighs! :p

I hear that holding your breath is the only scientific way to cure them. Hiccups are caused by air pockets and if you hold your breath to the brink of passing out, your body thinks it needs that air to survive. But then again, I believe a lot of stuff I probably shouldn't.

Rub the roof of your mouth with a Q-tip.

I get rid of the hiccups every single time I get them. It sounds stupid, and I've gotten shit over this before but after I prove it, my friends all try it now when we're out drinking. Take slow, deep, concentrated breaths. That's it. Hiccups be gone.

I said nothing about using water. Straight sugar in a spoon. Works 90% of the time for me.

You're looking for the "How do I induce vomiting thread".

Wrong.

Hiccups are a closing of the glottis (The opening between the vocal cords at the upper part of the larynx). The sudden rush of air into the lungs causes the glottis to close, creating the "hic" noise. In essence, the glottis is in a spasm. To get rid of the spasm, you need to exercise the muscles in the throat (insert dirty joke here). The best way to do that is to swallow something granular, slowly. I suggested sugar but if you really like salt ... blech. Use sugar.

Just think about making them stop. My Dad used to threaten us with a beating when we were kids if we hiccuped more than five times before making them stop.

We can all still do it to this day.

When my daughter was in my belly she used to hiccup all the time for the longest time and I never knew what it was. I thought she was repeatedly kicking me.

4th...holding my breath works for me.

If you haven't passed out yet, you're not doing it right. Try again. :D
