What's sad is, I've owned it for months, and have still yet to watch beyond the beginning (poker game).

The Matador is pretty good. Young Dick Vermeil, Greg Kinnear does a good job as always and Pierce Brosnan is sure to give you a man-crush.

A movie that I never see mentioned that's pretty damn funny is "Undercover Blues" with Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner.

New on DVD - I just finished watching The Proposition, an Australian western starring Guy Pearce. I ordered it sight unseen because it got such good reviews, and it did not disappoint. The movie is about one outlaw being sent out to kill his older brother in order to save the life of his younger brother. Slick, stylish and bloody. I really enjoyed it.

Probably not as good as Once Upon a Time in America.

Today I watched The Last Temptation of Christ and Napoleon, the PBS miniseries documentary. Both are great. But not new.

Riding Giants-this movie kicks major ass!! These guys surf 60 foot waves. Laird Hamilton is such a badazz-best surfer in the world. It has some sad parts too-like when serveral surfers drown, including Mark Foo-a world class surfer.

This movie is one of the best I have seen this year. It helps if you are an ex surfer like me, I freakin love it-but you will enjoy it even if you have never tried it.

lol close, the original surf bums were a counter culture that changed the world. They were crazy dudes, surfed all day every day, fished and ate pineapple-basically lived off the land. They rode 11 foot boards called bullets to ride 35 ft waves.

As some of you know i'm more into Indepedent films, those rare nuggets that I have to search for in the aisles of Hasting's 99 centers.Well I just finished one tonight that's from 2003.I wouldn't classify it great but definitely worthy of a watch.

While not new I don't know if any planeteers have seen or even heard of it but it's a decent watch if you think a movie about an internet porn superstar and the people in her life would be interesting.

The movie is quite sensuous at moments and then again disturbing at other times.James Woods is fantastic and the lead actress Juliette Marquis, well I'll just say I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

Didn't read all the way through the thread. Anyone seen the DaVinci Code? I watched the first half at a friend of a friend's house. My friend had to leave to pick her hubby up from work, and she was my ride. I liked what I saw. Now I just need to watch the end of it. I got to where they were at the Englishman's house, and were talking about Mary Magdalene. Silas ran behind his butler.

Yeah, the Da Vinci code sucks really bad. I actually thought it would be really good. Basically in a nutshell, it is the exact same movie as "National Treasure", and except for a government undertone and Nic Cage, it is a religious undertone and Tom Hanks, respectively. The chick in National Treasure was hotter to. 3 thumbs down for Da Vinci Code, but on the flip side Superman Returns was pretty good. I think that is out now

I read DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons. The plot of DaVinci Code can basically be summed up by - find a clue/bad guys found us/run like hell/make improbably temporary escape/find a new clue/start all over. And over. And over. It was tedious as hell when I read it and I have no desire to pay to watch it.

A&D was somewhat better, but not much. Both books extremely preposterous and generally silly.

That's a horrible description. The Da Vinci Code isn't some amazing piece of literature, but it's a cool story, it's got a lot about religion, and I would say if you have any interest in history, art, or mysteries, you're going to like the Da Vinci Code. My friends and I are Catholics, grew up around this stuff, we all really enjoyed the book.

That's an EXACT description. If it reached you on some artsy-fartsy/religious level, well, hooray for you. All that was to me was window dressing on a dull and repetitive story.

Flags of Our Fathers was an alright movie, too. Nothing too special though, a bit of a letdown, for me. I think it would be a great movie to rent, because it's better than most stuff out there and it's a good story to know. It's half war and half homefront.

No, I think Flags of Our Fathers was good. It didn't meet my expectations and certainly wasn't better than Saving Private Ryan or The Thin Red Line. The best part of the movie was the war scenes, especially in the planes, although that was short. The main intention was to understand the characters, but both the person who I saw it with and I agreed that the characters were not that in-depth, "wooden".

I really liked the book The Da Vinci Code. And critics of the book have complained of the woodenness of the characters. But the Da Vinci Code and Flags of Our Fathers have different aims, goals, and I believe that has to be taken into consideration.

As always, any dialogue with you is pointless. Saying that the excrable Thin Red Line is better than Flags of Our Fathers, or on par with Saving Private Ryan, means you're either trying to get a rise out of me or are simply retarded. Either way, you're not worth my time.

Stick with Woody Allen. Or Sofia Coppola.

What does this mean? That I can only watch those directors?

I didn't mean to make a rise out of you by giving my opinion onto what recent war movie I liked better than another. We are supposed to learn at a young age that people have different tastes. You don't like "Once Upon a Time in America" although it's one of the greatest achievements of one of the greatest directors cinema has ever seen. Your taste in the fine arts walks a thin line of too mainstream or not enough mainstream. You don't like Sergio Leone or Bob Dylan, but you also didn't like The DaVinci Code. Just because my tastes don't agree with that, doesn't mean I'm trying to get a rise out of you, and I'm not retarded.
