For me, it's an antique store. It's about 2/3 of a block away.

The antique store barely beats a dry cleaner/laundromat, and beyond that, there's a hardware store, liquor store, supermarket, Realtor office, bagel shop, tailor shop, upper-end restaurant, and picture framing place. They're all about 1.25 to 1.5 blocks away.

Technically, though, I think the hotel itself would be the closest business.

I walk through a small field and across a side street to get the the Price Cutter that's next door. There's Cassil's Coffeehouse just a few yards away from the end of my building (little strip mall that includes that, the office for my apartments, and a massage spa). Across the side street that is on the other side of the parking lot from me, there's another small strip mall that has Cody's Convenience store and a Pasta Express so far. Across from Price Cutter's is a Kum-n-Go. Across from Cody's is an O'Reilly's, Suntastic Tanning, and People's Bank.

It used to be Git-n-Go. It's a chain of gas station/convenience stores all over town.

I was thinking so, but wasn't sure if that was against the rules.

There's a patch of trees between my apartment complex and a new Sears store that used to be KMart. There are a few more places right around there.... a cruise line business, gas station, Pizza Hut, Papa John's.

Stephenson's Apple Orchard and Restaurant.

I used to love that place when I worked at the one North of the River (that went out of business).... last time I went to the one in Lee's Summit, it SUCKED. The "steak" was 16 oz of fat. :Lin:

I've never been a fan of the restaurant, and have only eaten there about 4 times in the 15+ years I've lived near it. But the store is nice for some fresh fruit and a nice apple slush. And when they let you, it's a fun time to go to the orchard down the road and pick apples.

A golf course. The houses across the street from us are along the first fairway, so we're not too far from the clubhouse. We get a handful of golf balls a week landing on our property.

Next to my house is a vacant lot, a garage/gas station (full service), then a bar.

It's not really a business, but there is a UPS terminal behind my house about ¼ mile. There used to be a strip club called IC Shakers about ½ mile from me, but they got over-run by skanks.... from what I understand.

One of my best potential projects ever was when I got a call from a lawyer who was representing a person who lived next to a golf course. The client was on the inside of a dogleg, and was being barraged by golf balls as people overrated their ability to drive the ball over his house. My job would have been to sit out there with an umbrella and track the proportion of people who tried to hit over the dogleg, and where the ball landed. Unfortunately, they settled the case before I could do the project.
