View Full Version : Turley Running at LT??

I thought it would be Black but all the reports I saw today seem to say Turley will be the LT.

As long as he is healthy that makes me feel somewhat better. He knows the system at least so he can focus on his game and not the system and the game as Black would.

Calm down, its not like they're not going to pick the best person for the job. Though it seemed quite apparant to me he was the heir apparant to Roaf, cause Sampson seems to be a worthwhile starter while healthy.

bring him on..

turley plays w/ a nasty streak and as long as he's strong enough to handle the position, keep him in

just what we need to pound the ball on the ground

I would like to see Sampson at RT and Turley at LT for now and see how that works out.

This is good. I think Turley is a much better fit at LT than RT, and he's a better fit at LT than anyone else on the team.

I think Trent probably feels better with Turley there too. Turley being a little undersized can also help with him pulling out on Toss-Sweeps and such. Without Roaf we kind of take on an O-Line more like Denver with Weigman already being an undersized Center.

Turley would be great...while he lasts.

He's going to have to put on the weight that the doctors told him to shed to keep his back healthy. My guess is if he gets up to a weight that makes him an effective every down tackle, he's going to greatly increase the risk of doing more damage to his back.

I can see him not making it through the season.

I'm not happy about willie but at least we have time to get someone in there unlike last year! I still see our offense in the top 10 and our defense will be better!

I'm beginning to think that Turley was the backup plan all along.

The most important thing is the left tackle needs to be able to pass block effectively so this might not be a bad thing. Turley is probably the only lineman on the roster who is light enough and fleet enough to consistently protect the edge against the likes of the myriad of speedy 260 pound DEs and 3-4 OLBs like Shawn Merriman and Joey Porter the LT has to face. The reason Black struggled so much is because he simply doesn't have the athletic ability and quick feet to stay with those speedy outside rushers. Turley might not be able to run block at his lighter bodyweight but as long as he can stay on a guy and not allow the passing attack to be crippled he oughta be alright.

He's gaining weight, per his interview on the Chiefs site. Just look at Denver's Oline, they're small. But they hold though, so nevermind.

Jesus.

At that size, he couldn't play tackle period.

He looks no bigger than Gonzo or Wilson......who are listed at 250.

Hello Sampson/Black/Svitek.

Next to Casey, he doesn't look nearly as light.....

Granted, Casey is listed at 285......

Any guesses? (not that we'll ever get an answer)

Supposedly he was around 270 when we signed him.

I don't know, maybe 275-280 know. I don't really think he wants to get any more than the 290 range because of his back.

Svitek isn't all the big either though. He seems to have a good bulk but is only right at 300.

the man is skinny...

brian waters' thigh is bigger than both of turley's legs put together...

Sims looks lighter to me as well.

Siavii is now listed at 330, down a few from last year. He really doesn't look that big but he hasn't ever looked fat.

going from a quick agile 320 pound man to a quick and agile 285 pound man is not going to be good...

we may have no choice but to try it, but i think turley is just too small (thin, not buffed up at all) to replace roaf...

If he were always on the small side and used angles and leverage it would be different, but a few years layoff and roid detox likely has the guy in a whole different body and mindset...

well, maybe by now he's grown his balls back and he won't need any roids...

I agree. If he is healthy and has good technique, I imagine Turley on the left side at most any weight is better than Black, Sampson or Svitek at +310.

This Turley weight talk reminds me of all the speculation on Ricky Williams last year he was supposedly down to 190 and was going to get killed if he tried to return. I think he actualy played at about215 down about 20 pounds from his usual weight and he learned to use his quickness instead of power all the time. If I remember he was pretty effective. I know it's apples and oranges, but the same principles apply if a guy is a good football player he may have to adapt a new style but he can still play.

Turley is supposed to be the RT, but under the circumstances, he might be looked at as the LT.

Turley @ LT ..... He's no Roaf, Here's hoping he holds up !
Sampson @ RT .... Shades of last year ?

Suddenly, I feel much better today than yesterday about I - 65 playing LT.

I definitely prefer Turley to black at LT. Black has demonstrated he can't play the position very well.

I'm not confident at all Turley can make it through the season with his back. Hopefully, Solari and whoever is the new OL guy can get Svitek ready to play. At RT, Sampson or Black or Welbourn. With Roaf gone, Welbourn may get the raise he wanted.

Q: You worked at the left tackle position today. Are you more comfortable at that side?

TURLEY: “It doesn’t matter to me. I’ve played both throughout my career at right and left tackle so I’m just looking to getting back out there on the football field wherever that may be.”

Q: Any jitters out there from your time off?

TURLEY: “No, just a lot of anticipation and a lot of anxiousness getting back out there and making it happen because its been a long time for me.”

Q: Is your weight where you want it to be?

TURLEY: “My weight is right where I want it to be and its climbing so I’m just going to continue on my path in the direction that I’m heading.”

Q: Are you going to continue to hear that same question?

TURLEY: “Until you stop asking I’ll hear it.”

Players on the PUP list can not participate in practice but can take part in team meetings and rehabilitation work. Once taken off the PUP list, players can begin practicing immediately.

There is no way Turley will be the LT. He won't even be the RT by the looks of those pictures. How is he going to put on 30 lbs. during training camp doing 2 a days? He hasn't had contact for 2 years.

I just watched the Raiders game at KC when Roaf was out. Green will be in trouble this year.

At least we have 6 weeks to devise a game plan and get Black reps.

I wonder if DV was the Coach if he would have coaxed Roaf into playing?
