Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith suffered what was portrayed as a minor hamstring injury during Wednesday morning's training camp practice at Dove Valley, CBS4 Broncos Insider Reggie Rivers reported.

The injury happened during an offense-on-defense scrimmage. Jake Plummer was throwing to Smith as he broke across the middle on a deep cross. The problem was Plummer threw the ball to the outside as if he'd expected Smith to run a corner route.

It appeared to be a miscommunication, but then Smith pulled up a little bit. He didn't grab his hamstring, but did walk off the field gingerly.

Smith sat out the rest of practice, but he didn't have ice on his leg and the trainers didn't take him inside for immediate treatment.

After practice, head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Smith had injured his hamstring. He said Smith was held out of the remainder of the drills as a precaution. Shanahan doesn't anticipate that Smith will be out for long.

At his age, he'll never heal. Might as well shoot him now.

Good.

I am kind of ashamed to admit it, but I felt that way when McCaffry(sp) went down.

That sucks! Even though he frustrates the hell out of me on game day, from a detatched perspective one has to appreciate his UFA to all-pro story.

Rod Smith deserves to get injured every day of every week of every year just for being on that team.

Well, lucky for them it is early in camp. Maybe just his way out of two a days...

You have to respect him for what he's done in the league, but you also have to wonder when his age will catch up to him.

If I had to cheer for a current Donk it'd be Dayne or Smith.

Smith having Missouri roots of course.

Shame...

At least were not hoping for Jake to go down with a neck injury leaving him paralyzed from the neck down because in essence, that would leave him with nothing.

There's nothing 'minor' about a hamstring injury...any player who tweaks one, has it all year and it's a shame that it constantly is an issue.

But it could also not be that bad. I had mine give out on me in a softball game last years when I was sprinting to first base to beat out a throw. Was so damn slow running the rest of the night that when I got on second base the 240 pound 5'3" pitcher apologized to me and yelled out to his team, "Guy on Second has no Wheels!". Within 2 weeks I was 100%.

In the movies, All lame horses get shot...........

Seriously, I hate to see any injury to any player, but that's just reality in football, it happens.
