View Full Version : TAKE 5 - The best candy bar on the Planet?

I would agree.

Peanuts, peanut butter, caramel, a pretzel, all covered in Chocolate?

DAMN!!!!

What was your favorite of all time?

I like the short-lived REGGIE BAR named after Reggie Jackson, tho it looked like a prairie pie. I think it had the same ingredients as a Baby Ruth (another turd-shaped candy bar)

Anyone remember MARATHON BAR? It was like a foot long, braided caramel covered in chocolate. Awesome. Even had a ruler printed on the back of the wrapper. Back in the days of 25 cents each.

For me it's Whatchamacallit.

But I have to give the Take 5 props. It's hard to come up with something new at this stage of the candybar world, and the Take 5 is a solid addition.

Pretty Good. That's the English version of Voilet Crumble.
I was in Australia, and they had Violet Crumble Bites.

I bought like 20 bags of the stuff, was hooked like on crack. Put them in the freezer. We were working with this really fat actor (The guy form the Expedia commercial who says "Hey Janet, there's donuts in the conference room!") he and I got in a 15 minute conversation about Violet Crumble Bites.

BITES: sub-topic: Bites vs. bars. (Mr. Goodbar Bites are pretty hard to beat)

Too rich to have very often but chock full of higher quality milk chocolate, gooey creamy filling, and KC hometown goodness or something.

When I was a kid, in the summer we'd freeze Snickers and Zero bars. They were great, didn't melt all over because they were frozen, but very hard on your teeth. Now that I'm older I don't think my dental work would dig it too much.

I also liked Milkshake bars, and the good old Hershey Bar with almonds. Simple, but tasty.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups rule.

Speaking of candy bars, is anybody else about to OD on that ghastly Snickers commercial? Two washed up jocks going Brokeback with a guitar over a candy bar, over and over and over. I think I'll never eat another Snickers bar as long as I live. :#

This is an interesting bump. I posted this in 2006 and, just randomly, ten years later in 2016 I ended up working on the ad campaign for this candy bar while I was at an ad agency there in KC.

Hershey just rebranded it under the Reese's name. Smart move. The halo effect will get so many more people to try it.

Abunch of years back, at the local Sams Club, I found some Chocolate Dipped Payday bars. I believe they were called Avalanche or something like that. They were pretty damned good. I bought the whole damned box. I went back recently, and they don't have them anymore.

Speaking of old fashioned candy, there is a company called Claeys that produces a bunch of hard candy with flavors like horehound and sassafras. It's good and dirt cheap to boot.

Actually, there is good news my friend. The Marathon is alive. It is now made by Canbury in the UK and sold under the name “Curly Wurly”. I get a few each year and they taste awesome. They have cost saved them to me shorter and not as wide as when sold in the US, but at least it’s still available.

Take 5? Shut your whore mouth with that shit. Fifth Ave, Payday, Mounds, Kit Kat, and just about anything made by the fine people at Reese's. The one that tops my list is the dark chocolate peanut butter cups. And I'm only naming some average shit here. Someone needs to take away your candy privilege for a time frame that they deem worthy of such a food crime

90% of today's candy has inferior and synthetic ingredients to when they were first put into production, tasting like complete shit.

I know just a few that still taste great:

1. Hershey Bar
2. Almond Joy
3. Mounds
4. Skor
5. Reese's Peanut Butter Cup
6. York Peppermint Pattie

Even some of the best like Kit Kat have chocolate that is not as good as when they first came out. Milky Way and 3 Musketeers are complete shit now.

I’ve had mixed luck with getting them online. Some were so old I couldn’t chew them (hard as a rock) and some were perfect. YMMV.
Fortunately, a local specialty food importer (Jungle Jim’s) stocks them here in Cincinnati.

I feel like there was a massive tournament on here about candy - most likely created by Rain Man.

On February 2, 2020, Reese's Take 5 announced the creation of the world's largest chocolate and nut candy bar with a 5,943 pound bar measuring 9 feet in length.

Rain Man probably needs to give the Take 5 a little love.
