The latest on a rumored plan to resurrect fabled Chiefs mascot Warpaint, the touchdown-running cheerleader of the team’s glory years…

“Who?” says Moore. “Not to my knowledge. Warpaint was dead, I thought.”

Ah, true enough; just like his predecessors who galloped under the same name. However, Warpaint owner Bob Faulkner of Benjamin Ranch is sticking to his story about a new Warpaint.

“I know they’ve got the horse,” Faulkner says. “Because I know who sold them the horse.”

Faulkner suspects the new Warpaint needs time to get ready for prime time.

“I’ve always said you can’t buy a young horse,” Faulkner says. “You’ve got to have a seasoned horse.”

After all, engaging in what is effectively a four-legged touchdown dance before 80,000 Chiefs fans screaming bloody murder is not for the faint of heart.

The last official Warpaint passed away last year and is buried at Benjamin Ranch.

I wonder what Native Americans rode before horses were introduced to the New World. Maybe we could have a whole horde of Indians riding across the field on horses, buffalo, alpacas, cattle, moose, mammoths, bears, llamas, pumas, deer, mastodons, elk, and giant ground sloths. That would really be cool.

I've been searching for a nice 8x10 of Warpaint to add to my Chiefs room for years.

I've tried eBay, Kansas City archives etc. Can't some up with one.
