Help me out here. Who'd we lose, and who'd we gain from last year?

In - Out

Michael Bennett - Priest Holmes
Brodie Croyle - Todd Collins
Ron Edwards - Junior Siavii
Tamba Hali - Carlos Hall
Chris Hannon - Chris Horn
Ty Law - Eric Warfield
Marcus Maxey - ?
Rudy Niswanger - Jonathan Ingram
Jarrad Page - William Bartee (INJ)
Bernard Pollard - Jerome Woods
James Reed - John Browning
Derrick Ross - Tony Richardson (FB)
Tre Stallings - ?
Will Svitek - John Welbourne
Kyle Turley - Willie Roaf
Lenny Walls - Dexter McCleon
Jeff Webb - ?

Who are the guys replaced in my question marks? (I'm doing this off the top of my head.)

At which spots are we gaining or losing ground?

I'm cheating and looking at an roster from last year, but does Gary Stills fit in there somewhere?

This is the best I could find:

My evaluations are based on how much a player will help this year vs. how much the replaced player helped last year. No future year projections, and accumulation of credit for glory days before 2005.

Plus:

Ron Edwards - Junior Siavii
Tamba Hali - Carlos Hall
Ty Law - Eric Warfield
Jarrad Page - William Bartee (INJ)
Bernard Pollard - Jerome Woods
James Reed - John Browning
Lenny Walls - Dexter McCleon

Push

Michael Bennett - Priest Holmes (at most a slight minus)
Brodie Croyle - Todd Collins
Chris Hannon - Chris Horn
Marcus Maxey - Julian Battle
Rudy Niswanger - Jonathan Ingram
Tre Stallings - Brett Williams
Jeff Webb - Marc Boerigter

Minus

Derrick Ross - Tony Richardson (FB)
Will Svitek - John Welbourne
Kyle Turley - Willie Roaf

Nice take, cdcox.

It wouldn't be classed as the same thing, but I think the combination of Fox/Bell (hopefully more of the former) will help the defense a lot more than Kendrell Bell, circa 2005.

I was hoping Tinker Bell would have got cut too.

Change is a good thing.....this team had become extremely complacent under Vermeil. Almost all the deadwood is now gone....

Per cdcox's ratings, here are mine, along with justifications for any differences from his.

Plus:

Ron Edwards - Junior Siavii. Agreed. If Edwards has a pulse, this is a plus.

Tamba Hali - Carlos Hall. Agreed. Better be an upgrade, with a first-round pick.

Ty Law - Eric Warfield. Agreed, despite the fact that I liked Warfield.

Jarrad Page - William Bartee (INJ). Agreed. It seems like he can be a push or better on special teams, and since I can foresee a potential scenario where Page could actually get an interception this year, it's a positive overall.

Bernard Pollard - Jerome Woods. Agreed. Woods was a serviceable safety for a long time, but his spirit and will to play disappeared last year. Pollard obviously wants to play.

James Reed - John Browning. Agreed, moderate plus. Browning was serviceable, but if Reed has claimed a starting spot, this will be an upgrade.

Lenny Walls - Dexter McCleon. Agreed. I think Dexter was a bit overly maligned, but I thought Lenny Walls was a decent player in Denver, and now he's fighting for good instead of evil.

Push

Michael Bennett - Priest Holmes (at most a slight minus). Disagree. I think this is a huge minus. Going into the season last year, Holmes was a superstar, one of the best runners in the game. While I like Bennett, he's not even close to what Holmes was at this time last year. (I presume that perhaps cdcox is taking Holmes' injury into account, so I may be starting from a different time frame.)

Brodie Croyle - Todd Collins. Agreed. Croyle has almost as much NFL throwing experience as Collins over the past five years, and perhaps Croyle will throw routes longer than five yards.

Chris Hannon - Chris Horn. I think these are the same guy.

Marcus Maxey - Dewayne Washington. I went with Washington instead of Battle since Battle was in IR all year. My initial thinking is that this will be at least a one-year dropoff since Washington was a savvy veteran.

Rudy Niswanger - Jonathan Ingram. Agreed. But since Niswanger beat out Ingram head to head, I presume that he must be at least a little better.

Tre Stallings - Brett Williams. Agreed, though it would be impossible to be worse than Brett Williams. I don't think I saw Williams make a decent play in his entire short career.

Jeff Webb - Marc Boerigter. Agreed, but only because I don't know any better.

Minus

Derrick Ross - Tony Richardson (FB). Agreed. We traded a starter for a backup.

Will Svitek - John Welbourne. Agreed for this year, though I'm hopeful for the future.

Kyle Turley - Willie Roaf. Agreed, but only because no one can replace Roaf. I think Turley will do great in pass protection, and I hope that he can handle run-blocking.

I took the 2005 performances as a known and am projecting the 2006 performances. Holmes contributed 650 yards and 7 TDs last season over 7 games. I'm thinking Bennet will be healthy for all 16 games and getting at least 150 touches this season. He should be able to come close to that production on yards, but probably not the TDs.
