View Full Version : I love my iPod

A very good looking guy I know bought me an iPod for my birthday (see....sex CAN pay kids). Anywho, I've really grown to love the little thing. I carry it almost everywhere I go and have spent way too much money on music for it. I haven't bought too many gadgets for it, but was wondering what iPod accessories each of you iPodders have found to be worth the purchase?

I've got the Bose iPod system in my house and it's a great alternative to a huge stereo system. Plus, it's portable so I can take it into any room in the house without any hassles. Great for outside, too.

I love my Ipod, as well.
To be honest, I had no idea a lot of the organizational pros of it, till I went to the Apple store at the Mall of America, and there was a guy doing a presentation.

I haven't bought any gadgets for it, though, other than a couple of covers.

I just realized that Ipod spelled backwards is Dopi.

I got my wife an Ipod for Christmas last year. I got her some stuff with it too, but I think the only thing she uses are the little colorful gloves that go on it. She likes to switch out the colors once in a while.

I really enjoy my IPODs as well. I have a 4 gig nano with about 900 songs on it. I use it on my bike and it took me about 550 song to get to Sturgis from San Diego Via Glacier National park and Yellowstone.

I also have a 20 GB which did not work out so well on the bike it kept locking up due to being a hard drive version. That one is now in my truck.

No more Radio for me. All music all the time and its all music I like.

Won the 2 Gb SanDisk Sansa player at Microsoft's TechEd in June. Plugged it into one of my systems at home and it asked which playlist I wanted to sync to... love it.

I use one of those old fake cassette things in the car, and I am surprised by the quality of the output.

I just bought the 60GB iPod just a couple of weeks ago. I like it alot. I have "acquired" a bunch of movies and TV shows for it. That part is pretty sweet. I mainly got it for the large amount of music I have on my PC and want to be able to listen to it all in my car.

Recommended accessories are

1) get a case for it pronto (I still need to get one) the unit if fragile
2) car adapter - the FM adapter seems to be the most popular. I am getting a line input (cant remember the exact name) I want CD quality sound, not FM quality.
3) I am going to get the A/C charger to be able to charge it while away from a PC. (I need to find out if you can listen while charging first)

There are a shitload of other accessories, but those are the most useful IMO. The radio stand is a good one, but not needed for me.

Edit - oh yeah, stop buying music. Good grief. Hopefully someone can hook you up.

I was kind of in the "Ipod's suck" camp when I started looking at MP3 players. In fact, I have a smaller-capacity Philips model that I had bought first.

When I really started thinking about it though, there are so many more accessories for the ipods, not to mention that I can control an ipod through my Kenwood head unit in my car (that I love). So I'm about a week away from getting a 4GB nano. I'd get a video, but I know I'd beat the crap out of the hard drive in about a week.

Of course it helps that I opened a rewards account at CompUSA and bought about 4 computers for my company there, so I have about $200 in gift certificates built up :D

For about $70, the iTrip Auto from Griffin is a good accessory. It combines a car charger with an FM broadcaster so you can listen to your iPod on your car stereo.

I'm actually in the market for an Ipod, but i'm not sure which one I should go with.

On the Apple website, it lists the 4GB Nano for $249, which can supposedly hold 1000 songs. It also lists a normal 30GB Ipod for $299, which can hold 7500 songs. Are you simply getting an extra 28GB for $50, or are there benefits the Nano has that the normal Ipod doesn't have? Seems like a no brainer to go with the 30GB Ipod, but maybe i'm missing something.

Also, are there cheaper places to buy Ipods rather than directly through Ipod? Does Overstock have good deals every now and then?

I would recommend reading up fully before dropping $200+ on an iPod.

Apple has made it clear that they view the iPod as "semi-disposable" and needing upgrades every couple of years. The factory-stock battery loses 25% or more of it's storage capacity within the 1st 6 months and servicing it is an expensive nightmare.

There's tons of class-action lawsuits out there, and some of them have already gone against Apple...

I don't know personally a single iPod owner that hasn't had problems. The lady that sits next to me at work has had hers for just over a year and has already spent $150 to have it serviced on two separate occasions.

I've had my 60G iPod for over a year and use it all of the time. I've never had any problems with it. Over 6500 songs and going strong. I looked at the other options at the time and decided on the iPod because it had features and accessories that the others didn't.

I tried an FM transmitter and instantly decided there must be a better choice. Here is my favorite accessory: Sik Imp (http://www.sik.com/imp.php) Provides a true line out and charges while playing in the car.

By the way, if you want external speakers, use an Imp and some powered computer speakers. Much cheaper than those iPod speaker setups.

The nano's are flash drives and the 30 and 60GB are hard drive. If you are going to use it in an area where there is lots of vibration like say on the handlebars of a motorcycle you will want a flash drive. The hard drive models will lock up to protect the hard drive.
