This probably belongs in the Geek corner, but I thought it would get more exposure/opinions here.

I'm thinking about getting an MP3 player. I'm not interested in the iPod. I am looking for something in the 2 gig range that will also do fm radio. I'd also like to keep the price below $150

What do you all recomend?

Thanks

So far good results.

Eh. I bought a Sansa POS for like, 50 bucks at Best Buy and it does the trick for me. It has FM.

Sandisk's Sansa is one that I have been looking at. It is getting some decent reviews, though some are complaining about the stiff controls, weight, and gliches in using it.

Why aren't you interested in an iPod? Honestly, there are good quality.

Honestly the Ipods have newer models coming out that last longer and have a brighter screen.. As much as I love my sandisk, those new ipods f'ing rock...

Second the notion about the iPod. iTunes does lick balls however.

Pastor, take a look at circuitcity and bestbuy .com. They have plenty of good options and decent customer reviews...

I would like the FM built in and as Chiefsfan31 stated, I am not impressed with iTunes. I would prefer a straight MP3 player that will work with MusicMatch and/or Media Player.

Pastor, here is a link with about 13 diff options in the 2GB memory range at Circuit

Clicky (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/MP3-Players-iPods/sem/rpsm/catOid/-12952/N/20012898+20012952+2539/link/ref/rpem/ccd/categorylist.do)

I think with just about anything but the iPods, you will be able to just drag and drop windows based style.

That is my biggest gripe about the iTunes, having to convert to a different format before its loaded onto my iPod.

I cant really comment on any of these items, but I do know that Creative has made some good players. You might want to look into the Creative Labs Zen player for 119.00.

I know on my kid's iPod, they get a bit picky about licenses for music that you want to load. If I have an MP3 on the 'puter can I drop it into a pc-based MP3 player without the hassle of licenses? (not that I download music illegaly, but I do have an extensive collection of MP3s that I have picked up over the last 6-8 years and don't want to hassle with trying to prove everything is legal.

I don't know what it cost since the wife got it for me as an Xmas present but I have a 6g Zen Creative with FM. Love it.

I do that all the time. Thanks to Limewire and bit torrents I can't remember the last song I paid for.

Thanks so far.

Now, is 2 gig enough for most people or do they wish they had more.

The player I am starting to lean towards is the Sandisk e250 which has expansion slots for more memory.

I depends on what you plan on putting on it.

I have a collection of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, Mozart and Bonnie Rait which alone takes up around 2g.

If the price isn't that much more you might go up to 6g or so.

Well, your taste in music doesn't suck like your politics do...;) Excellent choices.

The only "rights" iTunes cares about is the content purchased through their music store. All other music can be moved at will.

As far MP3 players go, if I were you I'd wait another 8 weeks until after Thanksgiving when there will be DEALS galore on all sorts of MP3 players of all prices and sizes.

But if I wait until after Thanksgiving, I will be walking on a treadmil inside instead of outside and the biggest reason for the FM tuner is so I can listen to the hometown football game announcers while at the games.

I see. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a really good deal now but history shows you'll find a better one in a few weeks. I guess that could be said about almost everything...:hmmm:

so carry on.

My daughter bought a Nano back in June. 2 months later she's complaining because apple came out with the new and improved one. When I was showing her the one I was looking at on the computer, she was really bummed at her iPod.

Tiger Direct has the SanDisk Sansa e260 (4 gig) for $155. Wallys localy has it for $170. I was planning on the 2 gig e250 but the more I think about it, the more I am thinking the extra memory might be worth the extra $.

2 gigs wouldn't be enough for me. I have 20. Which is why I'd go with the more expensive model. 2 gigs @ $110 vs 30 @ $240. Pretty easy decision in my book.

Like I mentioned in the thread, my daughter just had to have one this summer. I told her I wasn't much on Apple stuff but she saved her $ and bought the iPod anyway. After looking hers over and also how, as I mentioned on here previously about HP having iTunes on my laptop from the factory and me not realizing it until I pluged her iPod into my laptop and iTunes switched all of my media prefferences on its own, I have decided to stay away from them.

4 gig with an expansion slot for microSD cards. Got it in Thursday morning. After playing with it for a little bit, my daughter is wanting to sell her iPod to get one.

Mine too. My wife used to work for Apple, so she got a 25% discount on all Apple products. So I paid $300 for my 60 Gig I-Pod. This thing is cool.

I like the iAudio series. They make great players and keep their firmware updated.

There is supposed to be an audio player with video coming out under $100 soon. I forgot the name of it but if I had to guess I would say the company making it is HandHeld Entertainment.

Other players you should look at are Creative and iRiver. Both are rightfully considered to be top of the line.

That's the intention, but you can go to Google and find software/plugins like this (http://www.mlipod.com/) for winamp, windows media player, etc. I just bought an iPod and already have iTunes, so I'll at least give iTunes a shot.

I just got a question through PMs about what I think about my Sansa. I love it! I definately recommend it to anyone looking for an MP3 Player.

Say, could a mod move this thread to the geek corner now so people looking for info on MP3 players can find it? - Thanks.

I am looking to get one to give as a gift this Christmas. I LOVE the microSD card expansion slots. The current cards are 2GB but I foresee that rising drastically over the next year due to pressure from the cell phone market.
