Report: T.O. taken to emergency room

DALLAS - Terrell Owens was taken to the emergency room for an undisclosed reason Tuesday night, and doctors treating the Dallas Cowboys receiver were trying to induce vomiting, according to a television report.

Owens was brought by a fire rescue crew to Baylor Medical Center, Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT reported, citing sources the television station did not identify. A reporter for the station later said she saw Owens being wheeled down the hall.

Calls from The Associated Press to Owens' agent, his publicist and the Cowboys were not immediately returned Tuesday night. The hospital told the AP that they do not have a patient registered by Owens' name.

KTVT said a Dallas police spokesperson was en route to the hospital to talk about a "high profile case."

Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger a week ago Sunday night. The next day, a plate was screwed in, protecting the bone so it can heal without further damage.

Earlier Tuesday, Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he expects Owens to rejoin his teammates at practice Wednesday and would start Sunday in Tennessee if he proves he can play.

"It's just, can he withstand the pain of catching the ball?" Parcells said. "When he can stand it, he can play."

With the Cowboys having had a bye last weekend, Owens could return without having missed a game. He's already said he'll play Oct. 8, when he gets to face his former team, the Eagles, in Philadelphia.

You should head over to Baylor Medical Center in a Doctor's coat and see if you can trick ESPN into interviewing you.

It was due to an allergic reaction to his pain killers.

the local news is "updating" the story every ten minutes with the exact same sentence.

I love the "we got to (name) who's live on the scene"...

One reporter is outside the hospital, where nobody else is around.

The next guy is outside TO's (empty and dark) house.

The next guy is at the Dallas Stadium (sprinklers on ,crickets)

I think "the scene" should be a place where something's actually happening. Otherwise they're wasting gas driving out there.

Fox news reporting "attempted suicide."

bkkcoh
09-27-2006, 07:24 AM
It was reported on the radio station in Columbus Ohio that TO had attempted suicide and that was why he was in the hospital.

It was reported on ESPN news that they attempted to pump TO's stomach, if you had an allergic reaction to pain medication, would that be a course of action? I am not sure. but discuss.....

My question would be "What the frack is he doing on painkillers this long after his surgery?"

I'm a 60 year old man who just underwent hernia surgery (fairly major repair - the scar is about 6" long). I poped a couple of pills the day I got home (same day) and a couple the next day. The rest of the bottle is sitting on the kitchen table unused. My belief is don't take that crap if you don't really need it. I'm not Superman - just think painkillers are way overused.

I know That I've had reactions to pain meds, and basically can't take them. I'm not a doctor, so I can't very well guess what he was on, what the reaction could be or the treatment. I know alot of reactions are dealt with, with an epi injection.

If its a suicide attempt, there isn't anything funny about it. He's obviously got some serious issues to deal with.

DALLAS -- Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal) receiver Terrell Owens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3664) attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived, The Associated Press reported Wednesday citing a police report.A Dallas police report released Wednesday morning said Owens told rescue workers "that he was depressed." The report was first released by WFAA-TV.The rescue worker "noticed that [his] prescription pain medication was empty and observed [Owens] putting two pills in his mouth,'' the police report said. The worker attempted to pry them out with her fingers, then was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied. The worker then asked Owens "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time [he] stated, 'Yes.'"Owens was taken to the emergency room Tuesday night. A source close to Owens had told ESPN's Ed Werder early Wednesday morning that Owens was suffering an adverse reaction to painkillers taken for treatment of his fractured hand."This is not serious," Owens' publicist Kim Etheridge said in Wednesday's online edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.A report earlier Tuesday stated that Owens would practice with the team Wednesday and possibly play Sunday at Tennessee, but his availability this week and beyond is now uncertain.Doctors treating the Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal) receiver were trying to induce vomiting when he arrived at Baylor Medical Center, according to a television report.Owens was brought by a fire rescue crew to the hospital, Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT reported, citing sources the television station did not identify. A reporter for the station later said she saw Owens being wheeled down the hall.Calls from The Associated Press to Owens' agent, his publicist and the Cowboys were not immediately returned Tuesday night. The hospital told the AP that they do not have a patient registered by Owens' name; however, federal privacy laws allow people to block their name from being released. No teammates or Cowboys officials were seen entering the hospital late Tuesday night.Owens fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in the Cowboys' victory over the Washington Redskins and underwent surgery on Sept. 18. The next day, a plate was screwed in, protecting the bone so it can heal without further damage.Cowboys coach Bill Parcells mentioned in a press conference shortly thereafter that pain medication had made Owens ill, apparently making this the second time he has had an adverse reaction. The incident that sent him to the hospital Tuesday night apparently occurred sometime after Owens took medication after catching passes at the Cowboys' facility on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the Cowboys also practiced without tight end Jason Witten, whose wife was having a baby. Wide receiver Terry Glenn (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3515) practiced, albeit with several stitches in his thumb."He was trying to cut some tape off his uniform," Parcells said. "He had his hand down in his pants and he missed. Fortunately he cut his hand."With the Cowboys having had a bye last weekend, Owens could return without having missed a game. Before Tuesday's late developments, Owens said he would play Oct. 8, when he gets to face his former team, the Eagles, in Philadelphia.

I have no fondness for TO. I'm wondering how rescue workers were at his house as he was taking the pills. I'm assuming he called them prior to taking them. Either way good, good that he didn't succeed in killing himself and maybe this will finally usher in some change in the guy and force him to get help to deal with his issues. None of us can begin to think we know him or the make up of his mind.

So he's a dick and a drama queen. If that was justification for suicide there'd be a lot less posters on this board.

Each one is a mess, each one messed themselves up in different ways.

I think T.O. is a very talented guy who's missing a few fuses in the old breaker box. He may need to get out of football this year, maybe for good.

The pessimist in me says if he wanted to kill himself, he should have run about 10 crossing routes across the middle against Philly. The Philly secondary would be happy to put him out of his misery.

Police: T.O. tried to kill himself
DALLAS (AP) – Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after a friend intervened, according to a police report obtained Wednesday.

The report said Owens was asked by rescue workers "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time (he) stated, 'Yes."'

The Dallas police report said the 32-year-old Owens told his friend "that he was depressed." Details of the police report were first reported by WFAA-TV. Police scheduled a news conference for later Wednesday morning.

The friend, who is not identified in the report, "noticed that (his) prescription pain medication was empty and observed (Owens) putting two pills in his mouth," the police report said. The friend attempted to pry them out with her fingers, then was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied.

According to the police report, Dallas Fire and Rescue was called regarding someone "attempting suicide by prescription pain medication." Officers arrived to find Owens being stabilized by ambulance workers, who then took him to Baylor University Medical Center.

Owens was hospitalized late Tuesday because of what his publicist said was an allergic reaction to pain medicine he was taking for a broken hand. Doctors reportedly tried to induce vomiting.

Owens, one of the league's top receivers during his 11-year NFL career, is best known for wild stunts on the field and other publicity-seeking antics off it.

When the Cowboys signed him to a $25 million, three-year deal in March, they said their background checks indicated no red flags. In fact, team consultant Calvin Hill – who mostly deals with troubled players – said during training camp that his department was not involved with Owens because he didn't have a history of those kinds of problems.

He missed most of training camp, and three of four preseason games, because of a hamstring injury. He was late for work during his recovery and was fined for it, but Owens laughed it off, saying he overslept. He said it had happened before, though not with Dallas, and would probably happen again.

Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger during a game a week ago Sunday. The next day, doctors screwed in a plate so the bone could heal without fear of further damage. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said last week that the pain medicine made Owens ill.

Owens had not practiced since the injury, but because Dallas had a bye this past weekend he did not miss a game. He was expected to practice Wednesday, and Parcells had said there was a chance Owens could play Sunday against Tennessee.

Owens had been especially looking forward to the Cowboys' game after that – Oct. 8, in Philadelphia, against the team that dumped him midway through last season only months after he helped them nearly win the Super Bowl.

Owens was seen laughing and joking on the practice field Tuesday morning. He chatted briefly with reporters in the locker room in the afternoon and seemed fine. A 2-inch scar on the top of his hand was puffy but not wrapped, and he said the swelling was doing down.

While in the locker room, he took a pill from a white paper bag and looked at another medicine bottle that was in the bag. He also called a business partner about a towel-wrap venture they're starting and joked to TV cameras that he wasn't talking until Wednesday and today was only Tuesday.

"My little boy knows better than that," he said, laughing, as he plopped onto a sofa in the middle of the locker room.

Also Tuesday, Owens was involved in launching a national campaign for the National Alliance to End Abuse, an organization aimed at helping at-risk youngsters. He appeared at a high school Tuesday morning and was scheduled to visit others but had to cancel because of changes in the team's practice schedule.

A hospital spokeswoman said early Wednesday there was no patient registered as Terrell Owens, although federal privacy laws allow people to block their name from being released. Owens' publicist and agent, and the Cowboys, did not return repeated calls from The Associated Press. No teammates or Cowboys officials were seen entering the hospital late Tuesday night.

This is true, and also it reminds me of a time when this girl I knew in college said she was killing herself and locked herself in her bathroom with all kinds of prescription drugs, mostly barbituates and sh*t like that. We all freaked out and called the ambulance and they get in the bathroom to help her - turns out she took 10 aspirin, LOL!

Just for clarification, to me, this reads as 35. He said he took 5 before this incident (as his regularly prescribed dosage), and he emptied the bottle in this suicide attempt. 40 - 5 = 35.

I just find it sick that, even after this cry for help, people are still bashing this guy. He's sick in the head, it's time for everyone to lay off.

I'm not going to bash the guy, but I seriously find it difficult to have much sympathy about his actions.

I have profound sympathy for people who have a great void in their lives or that they find life too difficult to manage anymore. It breaks my heart to see others hurting and in pain- good people who don't need attention, but rather a purpose.

T.O. however doesn't fit this profile. T.O. is the attention-whore of attention-whores. He commands the throne of attention. I was tired of his antics LAST year, and the fact of the matter is- he hasn't done sh*t to justify this sort of media attention since last year. He pulls a muscle, and every fuggen minute is about him on ESPN. He breaks a nail, it's another 48 hours of T.O. Now, I'm sure ESPN and the other networks just love to drive his attention into the ground and that they are responsible, but the fact is- T.O. has every right to avoid media attention as the rest of the players do. Need proof: Look at how Priest Holmes handles the media. When's the last time you ever saw him on TV and the guy was putting up monster numbers compared to T.O.

So, I'm sorry if you think I'm an ass, but the fact is- I just find it very difficult to show much concern for his well-being when he allows himself to behave this way. I hope he's all right. I hope he finds it in his heart to get help. I hope he'll make better decisions in his life from this moment forward. But, right now- I'm just so sick and tired of his antics I could really care less if he tried to kill himself or not. 'Cause the fact of the matter is- he alone has killed my interest in ever watching any football news for the past couple of years.

The narrative from the Dallas police report
Philly.com blog
T.O. timeline: A season of turmoil
DALLAS -- Did Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens try to commit suicide by taking as many as 35 prescription pain pills?

Or did a police report inaccurately classify a call to Owens' Dallas home as an attempted suicide?
On Wednesday morning, Owens' publicist vehemently denied that he intentionally tried to harm himself Tuesday night.
She attributed Owens' statement to officers that he was trying to harm himself to the fact that he was groggy from mixing pain pills with supplements.
Kim Etheridge, Owens' publicist, was described in the report as "a woman companion" who said she observed him putting two pills in his mouth."

The picture could become clearer at 1:30 p.m., when coach Bill Parcells holds his regularly scheduled news conference.

A brief news conference by police did little to clarify the situation.

Lt. Rick Watson, a Dallas police spokesman, said police are conducting no investigation of the events at Owens' home.

He described it as "a medical situation" and said any further information would not come from police. He also indicated that the police report had been released prematurely.

He declined to answer questions or to verify the accuracy of the police report, although he did pass out redacted copies.

"This is a high-profile person," Watson said. "We looked into it and determined that there was not a criminal offense in this incident."

"We would do it the exact same way" no matter who was involved, he said.

Owens was being treated at Baylor University Medical Center.

Etheridge said he "is fine."

"He will be leaving the hospital today," she said.

According to the police narrative, the woman said the prescription of 40 pills was filled on Sept. 18 and, until Tuesday, Owens had taken only five pills.

The police report said Owens was asked if he had taken the rest of the prescription. Owens said, "Yes."

According to the report, police also asked if he was trying to harm himself. Owens answered, "Yes."

Etheridge said she called 911 because Owens was groggy and lethargic.

She said he was in pain stemming from the fractured right hand, suffered against Washington two weeks ago.

He underwent surgery to have a plate and three pins placed in the hand last Monday.

Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said at the time that Owens was having a bad reaction to the pain medication.

Etheridge said Owens experienced more pain and discomfort Tuesday.

He took some pain pills and did some "microcurrent" treatment.

She said he also took some supplements and "it kicked in a reaction." "When I went to grab him, he was out of it," Etheridge said. "That's why I called 911."

Etheridge said Owens did not have his stomach pumped at the hospital and did not vomit.

Staff writer Bill Miller contributed to this report.

This tells everything-it was all planned. He was also seen taking some of those pills the day before, so I think it is safe to believe him that he took 5. Remember he is not real bright, he said that he wasn't responsible for what was said in his own biography that he first said he wrote.

He'll likely be diagnosed BPD and next year every network will be running lifetime movie network type stories about how he had a major psychiatric illness that nobody ever knew about that caused him to be so troublesome in S.F and Philly...finally he gets to dallas and his illness (which he had no control over), almost took his life. They kept moving the TO press conference back, and back, and back then moved it to the location. Why?

The TO-haters will never believe him, but his side of the story seems WAY more plausible than the reports of suicide. Here's a guy that will do almost anything to get himself back on the field, including sleeping in hypobaric (sp?) chambers and such. It makes sense that he would be taking any and all kinds of supplements in order to try and heal quicker. And he probably didn't stop to think if they should be combined with him pain pills. Remember, this is the guy that returned from a broken leg in like 4 weeks to play in the Super Bowl.

Suicide just seems so out of character for him. And the fact that he went out and practiced today and wasn't put on 48 hours of suicide watch like other suicide attempts, just screams that the suicide reports are bullshit.

You know, the suicide reports could be disputed if TO would just show everyone that he still has the pain pills and didn't take them.

It took Michael Irvin to bring common sense to the discussion. No one bothered to check the story -- they just kept jabbering about the police report, as if nothing shady had ever happened with the Dallas police before.

Also there's some real class on this board and it was on full display in this thread......wishing death and harm on someone is far worse than anything T.O. has ever done, so in theory if you do that you're wishing death upon yourself for being a jackass.
