View Full Version : Frozen Dinners: The Best?

Donger

Since my wife left me, I've been eating frozen dinners with greater frequency. I've found that Boston Market and Stouffers (sp?) are the tastiest.

Are there any others that you'd recommend?

Thanks.

Back in the day, I used to buy a party sized Stouffers lasagna, bake it, and seperate it in to a bunch of servings. Buy a box of that garlic texas toast, and you are set for a week for under $20.

Sorry to hear of your wife and all, Mr. Donger.

I'm not a good person to ask since I don't eat frozen dinners very often. I usually thaw them out first.

I used to like those kids meal things when I was young. They tasted like sh** but there was a certain joy I had in eating my food in separate compartments.

Stouffer's and Boston Market are pretty much as good as it gets unless you get a Schwann's van in your neighborhood.

Marie Calendor (sp?) meals are pretty good. They're mostly, if not all, Italian meals though.

Basically though it seems the market for good frozen meals for people who aren't on a diet is a largely ignored niche though. You go to the grocery store and it's either some diet meal or $1.29 stuff where the picture doesn't even look appetizing.

Tyson and Hormel make complete dinners that you can usually find in the meat department section. Stuff like pot roast, etc. I've never had one but I've heard they are good.

Frozen dinners? Ewwww.

Just pick up a steak on the way home, sprinkle a little cajun seasoning on it and pan fry it in butter (not margarine). Much tastier and not much more expensive. Quicker, too.

Those are actually pretty good. They also sell individually wrapped potatoes to microwave instead of bake (turn out pretty well) to go with.

I'm forgetting who makes them, but those bag meals with the frozen cooked pasta and frozen cubed sauce, with ingredients like shrimp and asparagus, or blackened chicken with peppers, is the bomb. A little expensive though.

But for frozen entrees in general, the discussion starts and ends with two words;

Here ya go donger-a quick easy meal.

1 can of Campbells Minestrone soup.
1 bag of the Boil in the Bag rice

heat the soup in the micro while the rice boils-then when the rice is done-pour the soup over the rice for a nice tasty dinner. I add a bit of seasoning and some hot sauce.

If you grill out the night before and have an extra streak. Cut the steak in small pieces and add to the soup when it is cooking-same goes with shrimp-it is great.

Good when camping too-easy to make-and taste great out in the cold woods.

Hell even if you have half a steak and a few leftover shrimp-you cut them up and toss them in.

It is great on its own-but with the shrimp in there-it makes it excellent.

Here is another easy one for ya

1 can tuna or chicken
eggs
sweet pickles
Vlassic pepper slices for sandwhiches
Rooster hot sauce
Spicey Mayo

Boil the eggs, while you soak the tuna in the hot sauce. Cut up the pickles and peppers. Mix it all up like the normal Tuna salad but use the spicey Mayo. Wrap it up in a flour totilla shell or put on bread. It has a nice kick to it and only takes like 10 minutes to make.

Want Itallian?

1 jar Ragoo sauce
1 package of V's stuffed shells-frozen
1 package of ravioli-frozen-not breaded
1 Package of 3 blend Itallian cheese

Heat oven to 350, boil shells and ravioli for about 3 minutes to get soft, put in pan-cover with sauce and put the cheese on top. Cook for 15 -20 minutes. It is awesome-cheap too. Maybe $6 to $7.00 plus you usually have enough for lunch the next day. Takes like 5 minutes to make.

I had one of those Marie Calendar dinners the other night. It was pretty good but for a friggen tv dinner it sure was complicated. Pull back film over chicken, remove chicken and set aside. Replace film. Cut slit in gravy packet. Microwave 2 min. Pull back film again, replace chicken. Pull back film over potatoes, stir and replace film. Set gravy packet in separate bowl and microwave 4 more minutes. Cut corner off hot gravy packet and squeeze it on to potatoes and chicken (which is real easy after you've put a slit in the side).

Jeezus, I'll have a bologna sandwich next time.

Need a convection oven and a microwave for quick but a regular oven will do (just takes longer)....steak fingers or precooked hot wings with Oreida tots or waffle fries in the oven...Birdseye broccoli and cheese or california blend in the microwave...all done in less than 12 min. Man can't live on TV dinners alone.
