Didn't someone get reamed for suggesting this earlier in the week?

With Sapp out for awhile it would make since. If Herm wants to take a chance on him I'll go along for the ride.

He has all the tools, he would have help from Herm, Surtain, and Law. I say they get it done.

What's the harm in signing him and coaching him up?

If he sucks, cut him next year with really zero invested.

If he doesn't then it's a steal.

Not signing him to a BARE MINIMUM deal would be the kind of move that has prevented us from doing sh*t for 35 years.

No, I'm not saying that not signing Carroll himself is bad (though it can't hurt), but it's the TYPE of move we haven't made.

Why the hell not I say.

The kid has talent. I will take KC Joyner's research (read: not Joe Schmo bullshit) over a typical fan's "he sucks" comments, and Joyner's numbers from 2005 show that Carroll was NOT THAT BAD. In fact, he was better than a NUMBER of other much higher-regarded corners.

And he was a Packer, for Christ sake. Charles Woodson isn't doing shit there and Al Harris is struggling, too.

While he's probably not good enough, with the Sapp injury, we really don't have much of a choice.

Hopefully the coaching staff can find that first round talent buried inside him.....

Exactly.

I'll get a few neg reps for my posts on this kid but like I've said, signing him to a deal with no risk = GOOD FOOTBALL DECISION.

His reward is far greater than his risk.

****. Why? Dude is the cockiest asshole on the face of the planet. He'll suck all game long, then when the QB overthrows a wide open reciever that just burned him, he'll act like he just picked off the pass that won the SB. I hate him.

Becuase we need another cornerback, and he would fit perfect for the 4th spot. He has the talent, He could be coachedd by 2 very kick ass CB's and a Head coach who was a CB. There could be a HUGe upside, with very little downside.

I say Herm can coach him up to be a pretty solid CB. An athletic CB with good speed is something good to start with and is definately something to build on.

While he was at Arkansas, Houston Nutt was constantly in his face for holding penalties, he didn't care and once said something to the tune of "I don't care what anyone says, I'm going to hold the reciever." He's just a little self serving asshole. I think he got into a fight with another CB right when he went to GB.

then they sign him to a minimum if he doesnt want coaching they cut him with no risk.

In the end we still need a 4th cornerback.

I am glad he is gone and never want him back. He had to retire when we dumped him. I can say he was ok but tok us for a ride IMO.

I would rather take the same risk with someone with potential, myself. Lets see if the Pro-bowler CB's and coach can influence him.

Iowanian
10-05-2006, 08:12 PM
I'm not a big fan of Carrol....but depending on how bad Sapp's knee is, the Chiefs have 3 corners on the roster.....Thats 3....enough for a nickle package if no one goes down.

While Page can play nickle and dime package, the Chiefs about have to make a move.

They're about 1 injury from needing a Tackle too.

Where's the risk? You dont even have to guarantee his yearly salary at this point in the season do you?

This would makeup for losing Maxey and would likely be an upgrade.......hell he's probably better than Sapp too. As nickle/dime it's a good move he wouldn't be starting here like he was in GB.

I think it's more GB having a first year coach and him deciding he didn't like Carroll or one reason or another. He's also kind of short, but he's only played 2 years it takes time for CB's.

This is the team that signs Charles Woodson to huge money when he isn't half the player he use to be.......then released their first rounder from 2 years ago. That makes me question if they know what they're doing.

I get the feeling they're only playing him for the publicity.

Yes.....there was a guy who played for the Bills and Redskins, Antonio Brown who ran a 4.18 at 1 point.

The fastest combine time is Deion Sanders, I think it's something like 4.24

Considering Law, Surtain and Walls have firmly entrenched themselves as a very good top 3 set of corners, plus a solid 4th corner in Sapp, I wouldn't be too concerned about this. If they bring him in it'll just be as a special teams guy with the chance to keep working on his cover skills.

He wouldn't fit at all. He is the cornerback equivalent to Ryan Sims. All he will do if he makes it onto the field is get burnt and get called for penalties. Flagman sucks.
