Do we tender him the highest amount so a team would have to give us a first- and third-rounder for him (which won't happen)?

Or do we work out an extension so that he doesn't hit the unrestricted market in 2008?

Can we just offer him some whiskey?

I wonder what the rules would be regarding offering him the highest RFA tender and, should no teams bite, then offering him an extension.

Would anyone swap Allen for a first- and third-round pick (as unlikely as that is to happen from both perspectives)?

I'd say no, but... shit, that'd be one HELL of a draft to stock up on. Especially if the team that trades us picks for him sucks.

A first round DE could suck azz just like Williams in Houston. We have a proven commodity in Allen.

As much as our D-line has struggled in the past you don't let a very good defensive end go. Now with Hali we've got good to potentially very good ends. With a good tackle our D-line is all of a sudden stout. We've got a proven young guy that is getting better and better that they just happened to hit on in the 4th round. Draft picks for a young dominate defensive end is stupid. These guys don't grow on trees and when you find one you keep him. We just need to keep him off the bottle. Nut hooks for Carl if he gets away.

We need to keep Allen, no question about it. Isn't Kawika a free agent after this year also? He is more replaceable than Allen, but should also be cheaper to keep. Our defense is finally turning around, we can't let 2 center pieces of that D leave.

He is. It's a freaking sick core of free agent linebackers.

Lance Briggs, UFA, Chicago Bears
Cato June, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Adalius Thomas, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
London Fletcher, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Randall Godfrey, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Kawika Mitchell, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs

Droooooooooool.

Gotta keep both of them. They are the leaders of the D.
