Yep. Saw it today. Just as good as the Asian version if not better.

I had no idea of the story or plot line going in, since I hadn't seen the Asian version (now on the to do list). I just knew that there was a new Scorsese movie out with Nicholson, DiCaprio, Damon et al and that it had gotten good reviews. I didn't even know the name of it and had to ask the box office girl if "The Departed was the new Scorsese movie?" She didn't know until she looked on a sheet.

My gut was in a knot for the whole movie. Lots of humor to cut the tension--for about 15 seconds. I won't be able to rank it in the pantheon until I see it at least once more.

It will have to be really damn good to top Internal Affairs and I have heard it does. Look forward to checking it this out.

Trust me, get Infernal Affairs 1 and 2, but skip the third.

Personally if I had to choose I'd still take Goodfellas or even Casino but nonetheless it was a very good movie and well worth the admission price.Nicholson was well,Nicholson,he nailed his role.

I'm pretty sure it won't top Goodfellas in my book, but geez, that was 16 years ago. Not sure I've seen anything better in the last 4 years.

Heat is the only one of his I have seen. IMDB says he's doing a remake for 2007? Seems bizzarre for him to remake is own movie and only 20 years later.

It says video game next to it. Still kind of odd.

He is also one of my favorites. Definitly suggest checking out some of his other stuff.

Ah, video game would explain it, I guess.

I've heard good things about "Ali" and "Last of the Mohicans". Any other must sees from Mann?

Last of the Mohicans might be my favorite of his but its a tough call. Still haven't gotten around to Ali yet for some reason. The Insider is really damn good and probably his highest regarded film by the critics.

Can't go wrong with Collateral or Manhunter either. Collateral and Theif are probably his most similar to Heat.

Last of the Mohicans is the best of the bunch, IMO. Although you're better off with the original theatrical version, as opposed to the director's cut, which added nothing of substance and dragged down the film.

The Departed was ****ing great. It's like an old gritty Scorsese with a higher production quality to it, and it was complex always easy to stay on top of, my girlfriend who's not interested in these types of movies said it was awesome, and she's right. Great performances, I love Wahlberg, Damon, Sheen and Baldwin in this. Jack is Jack, which is nothing wrong about that. The movie was on speed and was stylish and beautiful and best movie of the year. Hell yeah.

As Miles mentioned,Manhunter,Brian Cox plays a great Hannibal Lector, yes Manhunter was truly the beginning of those films and although Mann did stray from Harris' original ending in Red Dragon it's still my favorite of any of the Lector films including Silence Of The Lambs.

Other than that although I've seen a great many that also disagree with me on it his newest project the film version of Miami Vice is a must see IMO.Just don't be looking for a buddy cop movie with the one liners etc that the tv series offered. The film is a dark and gritty crime drama and although over the top at times a very good representation of what I believe was Mann's vision all along when he originally created the series.

I passed on seeing it in the theaters since a few of my friends didn't like it at all. I probably shouldn't have listened to them it seems. The previews looked great and its still f*cking Michal Mann.

A simple and true mathematic formula. I cant wait to see it. The cast alone should be worth the price of admission.

I was very disappointed with Miami Vice. It just sort of meandered with out any real direction, IMNSHO.

I have wanted to see The Departed since the first time I saw a TV spot for it. I'm glad it is as good as it looks. I might try and catch a showing before the game tomorrow.

Most of them gave great performances too. I still can't look at Alec Baldwin in a suit with without thinking of Gelngarry Glen Ross.

Great, great movie.

Plus, anytime you can work in Scorsese's typical classic rock background music, and add in some Dropkick Murphys and Van morrison singing "Comfortably Numb," you've made a great movie, no matter the plot.

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I wouldnt say it was Mann's best, but it was still better than 98% of the crap out in theaters these days.

I couldn't disagree more. I think he gets a lot of backlash from all the lovey-dovey he got from the 13-45 female set after Titanic. He was really good in Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, and now The Departed. Those are 4 pretty solid performances, and all good choices as roles.

He plays very much the same character (right down to the irish accent and brooding temperment) with similar motivations and similar situation transplanted to a modern setting.

I generally can't stand violent movies, and by can't stand, I mean I throw up. But I went, because, well, who can ignore a cast like that? It was an awesome movie. Was gory, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Plus, Matt Damon's roll was, well, it made me a little wet. Leonardo didn't even seem like he was 16 like he does in most movies...I thought his acting was the best I've ever seen it.
