I didn't have ESPN when he died but, did DT get half this much coverage?

He's a Yankee, so that means this story will go on for at least a week. No disrespect to him, but if this was Mike Sweeney (KC's "superstar" player) this story would last for maybe a couple of days.

I highly doubt it. It would probably get a few blurbs on Sportscenter, but it wouldnt make 24/7 blanket coverage.

The only reason this is getting run is because its the Big Apple and its errie resemblance to 9/11

Yup. It was getting continuous coverage as soon as it happened, even before they knew it was a yank.

I've deleted more than one tasteless joke since this happened.

Yea, and about 90% of the media's big guns are already stationed in New York.

After further review the NFL says he was blocked into the building.

I think he played in 1/3 of an inning once back in June

Well, they're playing him up like he won Game 7 of the World Series. Anything to attempt to steal Fox's thunder while they're showing the A's game, I guess.

It's unfortunate that he died, but Roberto Clemente he ain't.

Solid enough middle of the rotaiton guy. I think the Reds had him for a bit not too long ago.

Well, c'mon, Buck didn't play for the YANKEES so he really doesn't matter.

Where is that Kansas City place again??? :spock:

Random memory kicking in right now but I remember watching him go deep into a no-hitter at some random bar back when he was with the A's.

Something tells me that being somewhat remembered for being a pioneer and ambassador for blacks in baseball is a whole lot better than getting a ton of recognition for crashing a plane into a building.

Even though Lidle wasn't a superstar it is still a huge story....I'm mean there are some things you just don't forget and a baseball player flying his plan into a building in the middle of Manhattan is certainly one of them. Most baseball fans will remember this 50 years from now just because it is so bizzare.

Did they report on what T.O. thought about the situation? I thought it was ESPN policy that every story had to contain something about T.O.

Agreed.....i didnt watch ESPN over the weekend but how much run did they give Buck O Neil?? IM betting he didnt get the 24/7 treatment??Are you honestly surprised that an active baseball player crashing a plane into a skyscraper in Manhattan is considered a little more newsworthy than a 94-year-old passing away?

If Lidle had lived to 94 and died like Buck it would have been little more than a 5 second "Former Yankee ......" Now onto the latest development, the Yankee's pushed their payroll to 2.7 billion a year ect...
