I have a family member who has a 93 Infiniti J30 that needs a new tranny. Car has 230,000 miles on it so a reman is out of the question because it would cost more than the car is worth. Looking for a lower mileage used tranny or they might just sell the car as is. Not much of a market for foreign in N. central IA, just wondering if anyone knows of a good salvage contact around the KC, Omaha, or Des Moines areas.

Also if anyone has ever done the maintenance, how big of a pain in the arse is it?

Thanks for any info.

CHeaper to part out the car you have and buy a new one or sell it-I would guess.

A couple of big ones in Waterloo.

Most of the bigger yards are linked into a national system and can get you about any part in days.

Right now salvaged cars are flooding the salvages.. you should pick up a tranny cheap....

Iron is high...they're also crushing out pretty fast. Old stuff doesn't stay long.

I've got contacts....where are you?

Wow, good luck with that. As far as Omaha, these people specialize mostly in Honda/Acura, but may be able to help you.

Mileage is high but the car is in good shape. Has had the timing belt replaced@50k as suggested and they have the service records on it. Pretty sharp for a 93, Bose stereo power everything, sunroof.

Fun car to drive too. Snappy 3.0L V-6 that ran 140-150 MPH out of the factory and will still do 125 easily. Not your typical situation on a junker. Could probably bring 1500, maybe 2000. They would like to exhaust all efforts on the tranny as they want to keep it as a spare car or maybe a work car.

Closest to Ft. Dodge and Carroll but can easily get down around Des Moines or Ames. Do you have the names of any yards around Waterloo?

Thanks for the links guys.

Used parts for some foreign cars are like gold it seems. Should just convince them to part it out or sell the damn thing!

Another important piece of info, is that Infiniti shares the same drivetrain as the Nissan Maxima, which used that 3.0 V6 forever. I would suggest finding out if you can use a Maxima tranny and that will probably greatly reduce your cost.
