Any chance the Cards can hit a lefty tonight?

I say not really, but it will be a tight game. Tigers hitting still struggles.

I went to a Cards/Tigers game in June where they faced Rogers, and they had a good deal of success against him. I think they *can* hit him, whether or not they do is a different story.

Marcellus

I hope the "new" Weaver shows up again. The Cards pitching is just defying the odds so far.

Carp has been their biggest let down though I think he will be fine in the WS. That said he hasn't sucked he he just hasnt been lights out.

Ever since they added the extra round of the playoffs it keeps pushing the season back farther and farther....Baseball should not be played in cold weather...its just ridculus. I remember that Indians/Marlins series in 97 when it snowed in Cleveland.

here is probably a dumb question but in the world series do they use a DH or does the Pitcher Hit?

In the AL park they have a DH. In the NL. NO.

It's actually a good move. He was hot the last of the year and Belliard doesn't hit lefties overly well.

Why not put Spezio in the 4 spot if he is hitting 390 against Rogers?

Why not take Enarnacion down in the tunnel and shoot him like a rabid skunk in between innings. And there is no reason (even given his splits against LHP) that Wilson should be in this game. He was HORRENDOUS in the LCS.

'Hamas' Jenkins
10-22-2006, 06:50 PM
what good is a WS thread if you don't post the score?

You can add a little analysis other than the painfully obvious. Like "Weaver throws a gopher ball to Monroe who just beats the piss out of it" or "Ordonez hits a dying quail for a single that's followed up by a double in the gap" etc.

It's more me being pissed at the results of the game than anything. My apologies

Ok...Kenny Rogers is a pitcher who has historically been three things...

1) Lights out before the AS Break
2) Terrible After
3) God Awful in the Post-season

Now, all of a sudden, the guy is unstoppable in post-season play, and he just happens to have a foreign substance appear on his hands in a World Series start

A conundrum. I understand where you are coming from, but it's still frustrating as a passionate Cards fan to hear people bash them (If you don't like Tony, that's OK, and I can see why you could have issues against Rolen if you're a Philly fan, or Edmonds' theatrics) for little to no reason.

Rule 8.02 The pitcher shall not --
(b) Have on his person, or in his possession, any foreign substance. For such infraction of this section (b) the penalty shall be immediate ejection from the game. In addition, the pitcher shall be suspended automatically for 10 games.

In my opinion, Rogers shouldn't have pitched the 2nd inning. Nor should he pitch in game 6 if needed. I don't know, isn't having foreign substance on your palm on national TV enough?

FOX making Rogers out to be a character guy?

I've heard it all now...

If I could watch anyone who is currently active in MLB be put in a "Saw" type situation, it would be him.

He's a prick, plain and simple.

That's why we should have started Taguchi and Spezio on the corner outfield spots and had Duncan DH, even though his splits against LHP aren't great. Encarnacion and Wilson are the two worst guys on our team right now, automatic outs, who don't hustle and play poor defense.

:hmmm: , oh well, it's not like he isn't a real stand up character guy....I hope his performance the rest of the way gave you at least the slightest bit of pause.

Oops, guess not.

From FJM:

2. Even I'm tired of typing the words "small sample size." But it seems the likeliest explanation for how notorious playoff choker Kenny Rogers is now clutch playoff hero Kenny Rogers. Up until this year, Kenny had been horrendous in the playoffs -- for exactly 20 and 1/3 innings. So we all knew he couldn't get it done under the bright lights of the postseason. Until now, right after he puts together a crazy 23-inning scoreless streak. Here's something, though -- the aggregate of the two Kennys? A total playoff ERA of 4.15. Kenny's career regular season ERA? 4.19.

Yeah the "Foreign Substance" wasn't why he was nails but it was a "Foreign Substance" not dirt. As the ESPN baseball tonight announcers said it was the same "dirt" he's had on his hand in the same spot for the last three games.

The penalty for having a "Foreign Substance" on yourself while pitching is automatic ejection and a 10 game suspension. Why wasn't he checked by the umps? Instead he was told to wash it off?

'Hamas' Jenkins
10-23-2006, 07:00 AM
Rogers' entire press conference afterwards was bullshit. He directly contradicted himself several times about the pine tar (when he played dumb on fox) then said it was "dirt". Look at the color of the dirt on the Mound at Comerica, then the color of his heel pad, they are totally different hues. The guy's a cheat, and a world class prick. I don't even really like the fact that Fox went to such trouble to sic the umpire on him. The media shouldn't be influencing the game in that way. If the players spot it then fine, but they may as well have called LaRussa direct from the both and told him to have the umpire check his hand, because there's a chance they could get him thrown out of the game.

If Fox is going to be the rules police, why don't we just get rid of the umpires altogether? Questec can call the balls and strikes, and Joe Buck can call 'safe' or 'out' on the basebaths by pressing a button in front of him after watching 6 or 7 replays of every play. You'd probably get every call right all year long.

I'm just saying, when the TV decides to point out something unnoticed by players, then they have influenced the game. It introduces innumerable people outside the game with unknown biases into the enforcement of the rules.

If he was cheating he should have been thrown out. But it's the umpire and the players' job to play the game and decide the outcome, not Joe Buck and Fox.

The game should play out the way that it would if there was no TV present at all.

I'm with you all the way. FOX dumps their quick shots of stars of some show I'll never watch:

Joe Buck: "And there's Mr. X, star of Prison Break in the crowd tonight."

FOX just intrudes on the game. It bothers me a great deal.

Christ, it's bad enough I have to listen Joe Buck muffle his cheering for the Cards and listen to McCarver regale me with tales of when he was "Bob Gibson's personal catcher", then listen to him call Kenny Rogers "Steve" all night.

Sorry, I've drifted. Was there a question?
