View Full Version : AFC Picture after Week 7

Let's look at our ever-muddled AFC picture as action in week 7 ends.

1 - Indianapolis 6-0
2 - Denver 5-1
3 - New England 5-1
4 - Cincinnati 4-2

5 - Baltimore 4-2
6 - San Diego 4-2

New York Jets 4-3
Jacksonville 3-3
Kansas City 3-3

How about those Jets, I guess. None of those teams still look particularly appealing, at least compared to past years. There's a long way to go, but that Steelers loss today hurts, they might have to go 8-2 the rest of the way to have a chance now.

I don't see Baltimore or the Jets finishing stronger than 9-7. They just don't have the talent to win week in and week out....

Yeah I really think we helped ourselves today with teams like Jacksonville and Cincy losing.

Chiefs control their own destiny, we have 3 of those teams left at Arrowhead and one on the road.

Indy's next two games are @ Denver and @ New England. We'll see what all three of those top teams are really made of. That could really turn it into a giant muddled mess at the top. Cincy still has to play Denver and Indy later on too. I'm not sure 13-3 won't get homefield this year, which is probably more "normal" anyway. All these top teams are going to beat up on each other.

If we're still in contention at that point, 3 out of our last 4 games are against Baltimore, San Diego and Jax. We'll have a lot of control over our destiny.

We need to win our home games. If we do that we have a 77% chance of making the playoffs.

I'm annoyed that the Cincinnati Latehitters got a win today.

I think you're going to see Baltimore and San Diego fade over the next month. Denver may also stumble unless they can find a way to score more than 17 points. Their offense is as bad as their defense is good and that's going to hurt them eventually.

I think the Chiefs have a GREAT shot of going 7-3 or even 8-2 down the stretch. Outside of the Chargers in San Diego I think ALL of our remaining games are winnable.

That Jax loss helps us out a lot IMO

We need to win next week, if we are 4-3 and get Welbourn and Trent back, I'll be excited.

That and we have to play Jax the last week of the season. That could be interesting. I do think Baltimore is in danger of fading badly.

Baltimore will most likely fade away, because their offense really isnt any good. Steve Mcnair was an upgrade for them, but not enough of one to make much of a difference at all.

If we take care of business at Arrowhead, and finish 5-3 or 4-4 on the road, we can make the playoffs.

we're going 4-3 whether or not the Seafrauds have Hasselback or not.

Seriously, they're really not THAT good. They don't even compare to San Diego. Maybe when Alexander is back, but even then, I just don't think they're the same team they were a year ago (when they had the easiest friggin' schedule ever).

I think the Miami game is a loss (back to back road games), we beat Denver in KC, I think we might lose that Browns game after an emotional win vs Denver...

7-3... 10-6... we miss the wildcard due to the 6-5 conference record...

What a difference a day makes

Wow. I was despondant all week over the Steeler loss. Now look:

- Trent and Welbourne back to practice
- Chiefs Beat San Diego
- Hassleback potentially out for our next game
- Steelers lose and lose Rothliswhatever
- Jaguars lose to the TEXANS
- Philly loses to Tampa Bay
- Up is down
- Down is up

I still fear the Denver loss will haunt us. But at least I can be hopeful for another week.

I really thought San Diego was going to physically injure Huard. What a game.

Looking at our schedule:

at St. Louis W
at Miami L (Our history in Florida plus the second game of a road trip)
Oakland W
Denver W
at Cleveland W
Baltimore W
at San Diego L
at Oakland W
Jacksonville W

11-5 (exactly how I picked in the preseason)

I think 11-5 would be about the best-case scenario. I'm not sure what to expect with that Rams game to be honest. I'm kinda worried about it. We usually play them tough though.. if we're going to steal some road wins, that St. Louis/Miami trip would be the place to do it. That's also the place where we could have a deflating Buffalo type loss from last year.

Crap I put Cleveland as lose, fixed that.

Wouldn't be so quick to list the Jaguars as a W now folks. The Jaguars have historically played the Chiefs tough and in fact own a winning record against the Chiefs (4-1). In 2002 the last game the Jaguars played in Arrowhead Trent Green was booed for his poor play that day. Right now the Jaguars are hurting with major starters out on both sides of the ball and Leftwhich having his normal up and down games. I really can't predict two months into the future as both teams have many games to play until then.

People are way, way overhyping the Dolphins game.

We won there last year and they were actually an NFL-caliber team. They just lost by double-digits to the freaking PACKERS!

We win that game. BOOK IT.

No way in bloody **** hell do we go 10-6 again and not make the playoffs. It's happened twice in history.

10 wins is a 95% lock to be in the playoffs.

That and we have to play Jax the last week of the season. That could be interesting. I do think Baltimore is in danger of fading badly.

I think people are overlooking the fact that Jax is a warm weather team who is coming to Arrowhead on the last day of the year. They threw up a major stinkbomb against a mediocre Patriots team in the playoffs last year, and I'd be interested to know what their record is when the temp is below freezing.

Regarding the Jets, I would agree, but their schedule, like that of hte rest of the AFC East, is VERY weak this year.

Figure they might get a +2 wins over what their talent would normally be expected to bring. Miami and Buffalo are a joke, the NFC North ain't great (except Chicago) and the AFC South ain't great either.
