View Full Version : Is this possible Mods? Quantitative Rep

About the only thing I don't like about Chiefsplanet is how rep works, you know the little bars that EVERYONE has next to their name. Everyone that has over 100 posts basically appears to be maxed out on rep, and one cannot see how much more rep one poster has over another. I was wondering if there is a better way to show rep as either a number, a better graph, and/or coloring. I don't know if it could be done, but if it could it would be pretty cool. Here part of a screen shot from another board that has something like I am talking about

http://i13.tinypic.com/3z6excj.jpg

As you can see they call it Karma on this forum, but you have a qualitative amount in the "karma hits" and the the longer and brighter the green gets, the more Karma you have. Additionally, if a powerful poster who has alot of Good Karma gives someone else Karma it adds much much more to their total than some joe blow with 2 posts. The same would go when a poster hit someone with negative rep or karma. This is designated as Karma Power.

I think it would be a cool thing if the planet could do this. We could call it something different, something cool related to the Chiefs. This really isn't beneficial to me, cuz I don't have alot of rep and only like six hundred posts and change, but it is fun.

Another cool thing that could be done with rep is allow people to bet it on things. You can make a friendly wager on whether Trent Green will have better stats at the end of the year than Huard with a fellow poster. When the season ends, whoever won the friendly wager would get all of the designated rep points that the two posters agreed to bet. Friendly wagers, lotteries, what type of strategy herm will play, contests, fantasy football, games, anything really. I think it would be an AWESOME thing to do and totally add entertainment to this board, I just don't have the computer smarts to know if this board could support it.

You can tell how much rep they have by the mouse-over messages.

Lies all lies.

BAH! Still it isn't quantitative. I just think it'd be cool to be able to bet your rep on friendly wagers and contests and stuff.

We can do rep power, but I'm against rep having any importance on the BB other then to cut down on "LOL!", "Yeah man!" posts and just for giggles.

Considering everyone looks the same after about 200 posts, I don't see much point in rep the way it is done right now.

I don't really think we need to show the actual numbers, though I would be for altering the number of points needed for each little dot gizmo. It seems weird that your rep bar is maxed out at like 1000 points or so when the maximum is around 30k.

The Dude Abides

But like the man said, is the planet board capable of such a thing?

There is one guy on this board that has a maxed out bar with only 291 posts. That is ridiculous.

Bugeater
10-30-2006, 11:29 PM
I don't even see anything I'd call a "maxed out" bar, all I see is 5 squares with yellow on top, and 6 with red on top for everybody. I never understood that.

Exactly, theres got to be a better way to represent rep. Like I said before, I think it'd be cool to do some other things with rep points too. Wagers and what not. Alot of boards do this, and there doesn't seem to be any problems and it is a blast. Anybody else think of anything cool? I was just throwing out ideas

It was Friday the 13th and I wanted to honor DeMolay with something, plus it is fun to watch people whine about rep, and it got 5-6 threads created because of it. Plus I hate that people take it so damn seriously.

If the Chiefs would lost again last weekend I would change them again, but hey, we won so they are stuck this way till the upgrade.

With the exception of showing the "rep power" in the profile, this is already in place. I can help or hurt someone else's rep a lot more than you can due to my total rep points and total posts.

I thought about Candy Corn this week, but then I might screw up the karma the new ones have. Of course at some point I'll make them all look the same to confuse matters even more. If I get really bored there will be a script to randomly change them coming soon as well.

But I gotta get really bored to do that one.
