Believe it or not, the mailbox I had was the one my grandmother had used for over 50-60 years... It's seen alot of banging and destruction thru those years... It was located at the end of my driveway --- which sets about 1/2 mile from my house... I live down a long driveway...

State highway crews would plow the damn thing over in the winter, or an occasional drunk would run into it with a mirror on their vehicle...

It was one of those mailboxes that you could park your car in... Kinda sentimental knowing it has been around that long... Hell for all I know maybe her parents used it... It was huge...

Weak. Actually, my mailbox is across the street notched between the ones for the people who live across the street. I'll post a pic, it's pretty friggin' comical.
They each have a super-sturdy blocked-in mailbox (like the brick one in this thread) and ours is the traditional metal one, looks like it's off that backwoods road pick, and it's strapped to the phone pole between their mailboxes.

It took us a couple days after moving in to realize that was our mailbox (they only have them on one side of the street, so it's over there.) Probaly the most ghetto mailbox in my whole neighborhood.

I'll have to take a pic in the morning and post. It's definitely a ROFL.

interesting how this thread turned to mail boxes... a mod should edit the title..

but...

it made me curious... how many people Have The mail delivered directly to their door anymore... The mailbox that came with the new house is right next to do the door and its nice only having to crack the door to get my mail.

is this common practice anymore.. does your Mail "Person" (sorry had to be P.C.) deliver the mail by foot in a big bag?

Mine does.. and shes dont look 1/2 bad doin it either

I honestly didnt get out to the bars that often out there, was in full-on starving artist mode. Did the house party thing a lot more, not really complaining though as i usually had better "success" at house partys. The very first time i went out there a buddy of mines buddy worked the door at SkyBar and got us in, a girl approached me and we hadnt gotten past 1st names when, i swear on my life, she flat out asked me "so what do you drive"............oohhhhhh brother, i looked right at her & laughed as i walked off.

Never bothered trying to go there again LOL.

43 mailboxes were beat all to hell within a 20 mile stretch of road right before Halloween... Yeppers --- mine was one of them...

Just thought I'd throw that in there...

A few years back a friend of mine took his real mailbox out and installed a 'dummy' mailbox over halloween at their farm. They'd lost a mailbox previous two years.

He took a standard mailbox and cemented the post into the ground. Then he filled the mailbox itself with cement and drove a stake through the top of it and down through the post before the concrete dried. When it dried, the entire thing was a solid mass that wasn't going anywhere.

The next day he found a mailbox with a scuff on it where the bat hit, and a cracked but not shattered knockoff louisville slugger. As best as we could tell, the poor bastard that tried to hit it must've done it from a car and since the bat just cracked but didn't shatter, most of the energy from the swing would've transferred into his wrists/arms. Bad night for that poor sumbitch, otherwise I'm thinking he'd have come back for his bat.

Digging that stupid dummy mailbox back out wasn't good times, but it was worth it.

By the way, I did get the new mailbox back up --- it's just the standard mailbox... I sure did like the ideas of the big brick like mailboxes, but with it having to be right on a highway where people run 65 MPH, I doubt they would like that incase some lush smashed it going down the highway...

This was actually the first time in over 10 years that I've lived here that this has happened during Halloween... Must be a new breed of kids out there... We use to fill up outhouses and drag them thru town and burn them... Or we would toilet paper peoples vehicles or even their homes...

"(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.
The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

I'm having problems with my plastic spare ball cranking too much. I doubt the Shark would be an option right now.

Actually, this Trooper I bought last night on Ebay (for $9.99) has the same hook rating on dry lanes as my Beast does on oil, so I am thinking that I might have it drilled similar to my Beast so it will work the same on dry. I will probably take both too the city and let a pro-shop guy watch me throw a few with the Beast, then tell him the lane conditions and what I want the ball to do.

When using your spare ball and you need to shoot straight or at a 10 pin --- make sure you keep your wrist under the ball... Let the ball roll straight off your hand... Don't snap your wrist like you would on the first ball...

Yep. When shooting at the 10 pin, I have found that there are times when my best bet is to loft the ball 3/4 of the way to the 10 pin.

I didn't either until I started bowling here last year. Used to cover the thing 90-95% of the time. Averaging 160 because I never could get the 10 pin here changed my view on the subject. Since getting the plastic ball, I'm about 75% and getting more consistent all the time. Left half a dozen or better last week, covered them all and missed the 6-7-10 because I hit full 10 and cut the 6 too sharp and bounced it off the wall and around the 7 - sure wished the 4 had been standing.

Go Kansas City. Who would have thought Herm could win 8 games? I have decided that the chiefs need a new GM who is willing to spend a little more money on players. Also, my new year's resolution is to pray everyday for an offensive line that doesn't qualify for social security.

I don't watch baseball.
I have Java.
I've never bowled a three-digit game.
I like watching History Channel war shows.
I've used abandoned office kitchenette tupperware to take home beer from the remaining keg after office functions...drinking most of it on the way.
I got some 3 am delight during a thunderstorm last night.
Just got finished playing hot wheels Sizzlers with my girls for about an hour.

I consider myself a lucky person.

Yes, In fact, I have about 12 Lbs. of it leftover in my fridge right now.

TIP: When cleaning up the Christmas ham leg, DO NOT toss bits to your dog, and DO NOT give her the huge (substantially indestructible-looking) femur.

My dog laid waste to the thing and gnawed away about 30 percent of it (I didn't know until it was too late). Then proceeded to parf it up onto three neat, ham-smelling piles on the living room rug the next morning. :banghead:

So my resting heart rate is ~50 bpm.

When I meditate take about 2 breaths per minute, but it's much faster than that when I'm just sitting around.

I don't think it's called "meditating" when you sit in a small room reading conspiracy theories and mumbling to yourself.

Actually, there's a lot of new age weirdo stuff that I don't get into much. I've read up on the Yogis and their practice some, though I'm not impressed. Basically it boils down that they're trying to get away from themselves IMO. I follow the Zen Buddhist (Korean) meditation philosophy of just emptying your mind and understanding that you know nothing and that nothing exists (including your mind) until your mind creates it.

So they did some studies where they hooked up some Indian yogis and Zen Buddhist monks to EKG machines and monitored their brainwaves during meditation. They both achieved near-dead states of mental inactivity. The difference came when a loud noise would be made in the room. The yogis didn't register any change, but the monks would spike a little and then immediately calm back down.

To me this is a major difference. The yogi was ignoring the world around him, the monk was simply reflecting that world and not judging it.
