This movie looks like it could really be good. I see the media is using it to try and bludgeon him about his DUI incident and are dogging the movie out. How friggen lame. I am going on record right now saying I'll bet this movie is awesome maybe even the movie of the year.

Yeah the movie looks sweet they say that the whole movie is done in sub-titles like the Passion of the Chirst. I think the language in Apocalypto is in Ancient Aztec language im not for sure though, the movie is gonna be good, I will see it in theatres.

I think it looks good, but I'm probably not going to until it's on tape, because I just don't like gore. And apparently it's got some really disgusting stuff. Faces being torn off, sacrifices, other shit.

And yes, it is in ancient mayan or something like that.

If you like this topic... I highly recommend this book:

Aztec by Gary Jennings

Read it HERE (http://books.google.com/books?id=kyChrEHp7oEC&dq=book+aztec&pg=PP1&ots=4k84gKhHLd&sig=v0atXlKAxabzmyuGClwCG7xNVmM&prev=http://www.google.com/search%3Fq%3Dbook%2Baztec%26ie%3Dutf-8%26oe%3Dutf-8%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26client%3Dfirefox-a&sa=X&oi=print&ct=result&cd=1#PPP1,M1)

Here is a little peak at it being made. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/apocalypto/

He uses the Yucatec Maya language. Gotta love the attention to detail.

This movie will be another huge success that will draw the ire of all of Hollywoods PC crowd. Good thing he doesn't need any of their money to produce a film.

I say Mel better clear off some space in his cabinet for another Oscar as a Director-this movie looks incredible.

DUI aside-Mel makes the movies Hollywood won't.

I think Mel is a crazy anti-semite, but the movie looks interesting and I'll go see it...it has that "i'll finish the film come hell or high water" desperation of Apocalypse Now...according to some reports I've read of the difficulties making it....

What cracks me up is the PC crowd. Once again they will be pissed at the success of the movie and will use it to try and dog him out. Of course this will do nothing more than give the movie even more free publicity. Mel makes great movies, period. I can't even tell you how many times I have seen scenes out of Braveheart.

I didn't like The Passion at all, but if he's returning to the greatness of Braveheart and leaving The Passion behind, I'm there.

Funny you mention Braveheart-this preview gave me the same feeling as that one-kind of creepy, dark, gloomy-Braveheart was a very Dark film-so was Passion. This looks to have a lot of gore in it also.

Some idiot from Fox News wrote a bad review about the movie and said it too violent. I guess he was looking for a PC cleaned up PG version when we make a movie about a culture that was extremely violent. Of course the review was was half about bashing the movie and half about bashing Mel the person so you could totally tell what motivated him to write the review.

I do have to chuckle, though, at BD having to whine about something in every other post. LMAO

One more reason to pick up the unedited version when it comes out on DVD.

I've read a couple articles also saying it is extremely gory. I don't have any problem with it personally, but I think its fair for a reviewer to warn moviegoers that its going to be an extremely violent movie. Gibson seems to be fixated on gore and violence (Braveheart, that scene in the Patriot where he kills a bunch of people and is covered in blood, The Passion, and now this).

I've seen no trailers and have only glanced at the pics....but it looks right up my alley. Definitely one for headin' out to the giant screen.

Like I said earlier irregardless of reviews like this I think will be one of the top movies of the year. I love his attention to detail. They say all the costumes and weapons were all hand made. I think it will be hard for the movie to live up to my expectaion though. This is the first movie in a long time that I can hardly wait to watch.

I agree with you. He's not PC. I also agree that his movie reviews shouldn't harp too much on the violence. I think violence and gore have a place in cinema because they can be important expressions of human nature. I just hope Mel can continue to make movies of the caliber of Braveheart but can diversify his means of expression beyond violence and gore. Otherwise, his movies become a one-note tune and the violence is actually more limiting than enabling in his expression of ideas.

Saw the trailer at Casino Royale last weekend and I'm sold. If just for the beautiful imagery alone, I'm definitely going to see it.

The Mayans as a whole were not especially violent. They were mainly known for their intellectual achievements.

Don't get them confused with the Aztecs. They both employed human sacrifice to satiate the gods, but the Aztecs were so unique because of the scope of their form of human sacrifice. The Mayans did not constantly make war with their neighbors for the specific goal of capturing hundreds or even thousands of warriors to sacrifice like the Aztecs.
